It is just nuts that it knows I am the same person who is a director on two companies but only recognises that I am verified on only one. Either I am me or not? I am.

The reason? "because I am personally familiar with this website myself." I had to ask how they knew us. "I had used the website before when I was a Student in Secondary School." This makes me so happy.

And we offer a £500 prize to the winning scientist. Yep, dating and gambling. Normally when you contact the firewall provider you get a brush off about only speaking to customer schools. This time was different. It was an apology and a promise to update us globally...

Sometimes a school's firewall blocks our imascientist.org.uk site. It's annoying. Today, the teacher sent a screenshot and I noticed it said suspected "dating gambling". What? But our home page says: It connects school students with scientists through energetic real-time text-based Chats."

APOLOGIES FOR INTERRUPTING YOUR DOOM-SCROLLING Britain is not completely broken. My car went for an MOT and admittedly failed. I asked the mechanic to fix it. Yesterday he called to let me know it was done, A WHOLE DAY AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. He underpromised and overdelivered. #BrilliantBritain

*this para is important. William O'Reilly, history don, was found to have plagiarised by the university, and has had sexual misconduct claims against him as well — but he remains in post at Cambridge, and the press/public barely noticed.
Allegations of plagiarism in a doctoral thesis do not usually make for riveting, front-page news. Indeed, in 2023, when the Cambridge history professor William O’Reilly faced allegations of plagiarising student essays, the press coverage consisted of barely half a dozen articles (a tribunal ruled the plagiarism was “the product of negligent acts but was not deliberate”). Few people could care less about what academics get up to.

But Arday could not expect to be similarly insulated by academia’s remoteness. This story has endured, stubbornly, because it is so perfectly calibrated for some of the most combustible charges of Britain’s culture wars: namely, that academic standards have been surrendered to a woke orthodoxy, and that minorities are unfairly advanced in the name of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

I remember living in the West End in the 90's. Vertical Drinking was a concept introduced by the Outbackers chain. They had worked out that if they removed the seats on a weekend, their drink sales went through the roof. Not because of more ppl, but because when standing you drink more. Not pretty.

I worry a little that BlueSky isn't quite the safe haven we think it is. It's fine if you share a really clear black and white leftist, progressive view, but if you posit something outside of that the mob can still rise. It is feeling increasingly absolutist here in recent times.

One of the things I find odd about UK skills and jobs policies over the last 10 years is the idea that - for young people - place is destiny. It's like we've taken the Brexit memo and double stamped it into meaning you need to stay put to be a success. The geographical footprint of the UK is *tiny*

We must remember the Utøya massacre, and remember it for what it was: a far-right attack specifically targeted against democratic socialist activists. Today, the ideologies of its perpetrator are openly espoused by a global network of nationalist oligarchs as they wage war on democratic societies.
