Barring future insights on the nature of consciousness there's no reason AI couldn't some day. Structurally I think it's impossible LLMs ever could unless our understanding of consciousness expands in some bizarre ways that would also include a solar system, or an ant hill (ie not individual ants).

Canadian teens who use AI every week score two years behind teens who don’t use AI. I looked into the PISA data, so you don’t have to. Why are they using AI and does AI literacy instruction help? Read more here.

The release of AI chatbots has harmed teens’ learning and Canada needs to act
Teens use AI every day to help them learn, but new data shows they are falling years behind. Governments cannot afford to wait to regulate AI.

Given past statements, true believer seems more likely. Though with Unreal Engine's pivot to AI, I think it could be an Nvidia situation. Epic now sees gaming as purely a stage to signal to investors about their real business: AI.

I don't use GenAI because I want to be capable of doing my work. I want my work to be my work. I want my successes to be *my* successes. And I want to do the work that I can only do if I don't have GenAI getting in my way. Each author and intellectual should have this conversation with themselves.

I'm skeptical, but if all these warnings are remotely true it's also true that there -is- a kill switch right now that all these companies and nations refuse to use. If that's what's going on they should already all be in the Hague.

It feels like the single thing people are most insecure about. You can't even mention something positive you do to affect the world or show solidarity without them stumbling over themselves to justify (to themselves) why they don't do it.

It's all downstream the inferiority complex to film. The obsession with AAA is an attempt to recreate in their mind the artifice of Hollywood and what used to be film criticism. Centering the ostensibly largest games. But they don't. Many of the largest are ignored. It's the most film-like games.

It's their literal job to understand this medium, yet we write off massive portions of it as not even worth following second hand. Everyone engaging with games has already arbitrarily shuttered themselves off. And anyone who primarily looks to big budget "AAA" releases is doing so more than most.

This is such a joke coming from an industry that ruthlessly and arbitrarily segregates itself and its discourse in 50 different ways. Most game critics already don't know shit, nor talk about massive and 'culturally important' games like World of Tanks, EA Sports, mobile games, and more.

difficulty discourse comes up around a 'hardcore' game in a genre favored (or at least perceived to be) by men. It seems to be tied up in pride in accepting 'life for what it really is' which is inevitably harsh and brutal. See also fantasizing of 'being able to make the hard decisions'

(in a masculine sort of way) then a counter narrative develops where to criticize it is a sign that you are too weak to be able to stand its content or relate to it. See: the way "just let people enjoy things" often applies to Marvel, action movies, but not Twilight, cozy games, and also any time

100% agree with all of this. Though to expand on it, my intuition is it originates elsewhere in something tied to "toughness" and likely patriarchy. I say this because I see it unevenly applied, and even reversed in some cases (or at least shifted in that direction). If something is seen as 'tough'
