Over the weekend, I had an idea: what if, instead of the objects appearing to sit horizontally in front of you, I modified them to appear vertically? Here are four test attempts.

This is a real photo from 1913. It hasn’t been colorized. It was made using a technique called the Autochrome Lumière which captured true color using microscopic dyed starch grains as color filters, decades before color film existed. Pretty incredible, no? More below 👇

#ICN2026 was fun. Also, I suspect that the fact that the clicker didn't work made my talk more memorable😅 (Many people who had nothing to do with it came to apologize😂)

Our work on goal-directed theta sweeps is out! We found two different types of theta sweeps in the rat hippocampus. During random foraging, left-right alternating sweeps dominated (Vollan, 25). However, during memory-guided navigation sweeps pointing to hidden goal locations emerged with learning.

Americans (apparently including Canadians) will do anything to avoid the metric system
There is an active wildlife corridor located just behind the Banff Centre on Tunnel Mountain,
so you might see elk, deer, and fox on campus.
For safety reasons, please remain at least two bus lengths away from wildlife.

1/7 🧠 My journey into development begins with this work and question: how does the brain's spatial navigation system develop? We found that the neural networks for spatial navigation (tori and rings) are preconfigured and only later anchor gradually to the world with experience! 🧵

As a primatologist, Jane Goodall was a huge inspiration to me. I admired the way she describes chimpanzee behavior with such detail and empathy, and she’s inspired so many people and advocated for chimpanzee conservation and welfare. However, I'm dismayed at what her narrative leaves out (1/10)
Photo of Jane Goodall in the center, signing a book, with three women standing slightly hunched behind her. A very young Michelle is to the right, smiling.
