We are conceding the very possibility of democratic governance to allow a corporation to determine the moral rights of a machine. surely moral concern for actual humans and how we relate is better preserved democratically than it is by a corporation.

It's interesting to think through authoritarian pushes for language change, where the authoritarianism and the prescriptivism are both obviously bad, but then also reflect on cases where recommendations for deliberate language change can have positive impact. >>

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

Wow, OpenMetadata has retooled a lot. They used to have a whole dictionary with terms and typed relations between terms. Really proto-knowledge graph there. I don't see that in the new documentation anymore.

A new Handbook of Evolutionary Psychology has just been published, in which it is claimed that the human species is polytypic: not only is race biologically meaningful but the races are distinct enough to be considered subspecies. Published by Elgar. In 2026.
Chapters in Part III take stock of the current state of evolutionary psychology, by casting wider attention to other social and behavioral sciences and assessing the field's influence on them. In Chapter 11 ('Evolutionary psychology and anthropology'), Heiner Rindermann identifies three major forces that oppose scientific anthropology: Religion, National Socialism ('Nazism'), and woke leftist ideology. Ironically, in this sense, woke left ideologues, who include most anthropologists themselves, geneticists, and other university academics, share much in common with the Nazis in their common opposition to scientific anthropology.
Rindermann's extensive review of the literature leaves no doubt that humans are genetically polytypic and contain different biological races or 'subspecies' At the end of the chapter, Rindermann delivers devastating rebuttals to all potential arguments against the notion of races/subspecies among humans.

Hugo Chavez-linked PR flack Michael Shellenberger — a random guy with a Substack who rakes in donations to fight a “censorship complex” that he created — would like you to know that journalists reporting on his attempts to smear people are propagandists.
Lithuania's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. EU Disinfolab declined to comment.
"If you believe that emailing questions to government officials and others constitutes
'pressure,' then you are a propagandist and a toady and should stop misrepresenting yourself as a journalist," Shellenberger told Rapporteur.
An EEAS spokesperson said: "The reason for the request to remove the logo of the EEAS was that organisers chose to frame some of the discussions in a way which does not align with the official positions held by the EU. "
Global Affairs Canada did not respond to questions about its decisions to withdraw support.

The software profession, an immature field marked by repeated ethical violations, has no such guidelines about the proper use of public data about subjects. It instead has foundational myths (specifically "information freedom") that say that you cannot do any wrong by using data if you can see it.

This is at the root of what is "wrong" about surveillance as a social practice. It isn't necessarily about a state doing the surveilling, or the surveilling of private behavior. It's the nonconsensual grabbing of an affordance of another person's life and using it towards one's own ends.
