Who, Me? was a top secret, sulfurous, non-lethal chemical weapon developed by MIT-graduate Ernest Crocker for the U.S. Office of Strategic Services during World War II.[1][2] Who, Me? smelled strongly of fecal matter, and was issued in pocket atomizers intended to be unobtrusively sprayed on a German officer to humiliate him and, by extension, demoralize the occupying German forces.[3]

Who, Me? had a high concentration of extremely volatile sulfur compounds that were very difficult to control: more often than not, the person who did the spraying also ended up smelling as bad as the one targeted.[4] After two weeks, it was concluded that Who, Me? was a failure.

Every time you write about the past, even the very recent past, you’re considering something that *could* be considered from a historical perspective. You *could* be engaging historically with it. But much of the time you probably aren’t.

She's much likelier to win Senate, but also not running for president pulls the field to the left more than running would. Running means she has the leftmost lane locked up and everyone else is competing over the rest. Not running means those votes are up for grabs, they're worth trying to get.

Some unintended consequences I suspect the rise of AI agents will create: 1. Restaurants that only take reservations by hand written letter, or more likely, don't take them at all. 2. Gigs where you can only buy tickets in person. 3. Businesses that operate without websites.

Hi Tobias,

I recently came across your profile and thought your humanities background could be a great fit for an opportunity we’re hiring for at SpaceXAI [https://x.ai/].

We’re currently looking for an AI Tutor – Humanities Specialist to help train and improve Grok. You’ll evaluate model outputs across areas like linguistics, history, classical studies, literature, poetry, philosophy, ethics, and the visual or performing arts, while identifying factual errors, flawed reasoning, anachronisms, weak sourcing, and claims that go beyond the available evidence. You’ll also create high-quality reference answers and training data grounded in primary sources, clearly distinguishing evidence from interpretation and speculation.

The same point applies for members of the Cabinet. The secretary of defense has proudly and openly murdered hundreds of people as official policy. Leave the official record on that as an indifferent shrug and you're not doing anything to tell future secretaries not to do the same or worse.

He really, really, doesn't want to be impeached again. If nothing else, subjecting him to the thing he hates, and which less insane presidents are even keener to avoid, is a way to impose some kind of cost as a disincentive for the future. Otherwise the message is be as lawless as you want.

The CW idea impeachment backfires isn't true. Nor is there any value in surrendering in advance on conviction. But there's a more important long-term consideration. Looking at all this and saying nope, we're not even going to say he should be removed, is locking in a message for future presidents.

Going to a screening of the legendary disaster Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) and whoo boy, talk about hubris.
Before the film's release, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees announced:
Kids today don't know the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper. And when those who do see our film and hear us doing it, that will be the version they relate to and remember.
Unfortunately, the Beatles will be secondary. You see, there is no such thing as the Beatles. They don't exist as a band and never
performed Sgt. Pepper live, in any case. When ours comes out, it will be, in effect, as if theirs never existed. When you heard the Beatles do 'Long Tall Sally' or 'Roll Over Beethoven,' did you care about Little Richard's or Chuck
Berry's version?
