A reminder that T. S. Eliot had the problems of today figured out 103 years ago in his essay and poetry collection "The Sacred Wood."
"The vast accumulations of knowledge—or at least of information—deposited by the nineteenth century have been responsible for an equally vast ignorance. When there is so much to be known, when there are so many fields of knowledge in which the same words are used with different meanings, when every one knows a little about a great many things, it becomes increasingly difficult for anyone to know whether he knows what he is talking about or not. And when we do not know, or when we do not know enough, we tend always to substitute emotions for thoughts."

Thinking about this chicken wing joint where I used to live called “Lord of the Wings." They had a sign in the window that said "Fry, you fools!" and they closed years ago but their top notch food punnery lives forever through me.

I’ve been thinking, we need to bring back patrons. Like real ones who give writers and artists money to keep going why they create. Like in Renaissance Italy, but without the murder and persecution. Anyway, I’m available to be patronised, FYI

I found that I have been happier since I changed from coffee in the morning to orange juice. My doctor explained that it's the vitamin C and natural sugars, but I really think it's the vodka.

Foxes are incredible creatures—playful, intelligent, and vital to our ecosystems. They deserve to thrive in the wild, free from fear and cruelty. 🦊 Killing them for sport is barbaric and senseless. Let’s protect their joy and beauty.

This is their goal. Privatize everything. And by “privatize” we mean steer billions to themselves and their friends, ending programs that serve those with the least under the guise of “efficiency”. Rural areas will suffer. Prices will rise. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

As those who celebrate Christmas mark the season by watching the movie Die Hard, I wonder: Isn’t Die Hard also a Hanukkah movie, celebrating a small and brave band fighting for freedom against overwhelming odds? There’s one obvious indication: John McClane = JM= Judah Maccabee. 🤷‍♂️

A man almost steps on a Banana Peel and says "heh. almost slipped on that banana peel. Classic bit." The Banana peel springs off the ground and latches on to the man's face. A muffled MMPH MMPH can heard. His stomach expands, much to his distress, and a banana bursts out amidst a flurry of intestinal viscera.

I dunno David, showing sympathy for a group usually includes opposing state efforts to ban the healthcare that they need. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/08/o...
David French:
I cannot begin to imagine the pain of feeling that your body does not match your gender. I cannot imagine the pain of parenting a child in such distress. Americans should feel immense sympathy for individuals in those circumstances, and we should feel an urgent necessity to treat children’s pain in the safest and most effective way possible.

We should not, however, require states to permit treatments of dubious effectiveness, especially when those treatments carry risks of serious side effects.

When we bemoan the lack of boys and men in advanced English and writing classes, we ignore an educational culture that pushes STEM hard and a larger culture that pushes outsized money acquisition as the route to power and status.

This is at the heart of so many of our current problems. We've steadily and systematically stripped away all the places in our society where young men can feel like they are a useful, positive contributor to something and then wonder why so many young men are depressed or angry.
