The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.

On Tuesday, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a $131.5 million settlement agreement with DoorDash for underpaying nearly 260,000 delivery workers. The settlement follows a years-long investigation that found DoorDash failed to pay thousands of workers for all the time they worked.

the musk family is, uh, something www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...
In a voice-over, Gibney says there are 14 known children of Musk’s but likely many more. Musk has built a compound in Austin for the children and their mothers.

His thinking, according to tech journalist Kara Swisher: “I have superior genes, and I need to procreate.”

Musk’s parents also appear in the documentary. His father Errol, it should be noted, told the Sun in 2022 that “the only thing we are on Earth for is to reproduce.” He was defending having a second child with his stepdaughter. (You read that correctly.) Errol describes his son’s childhood as one rife with bullying and beatdowns.

His mother, Maye, meanwhile describes a chaotic household in which Errol would tell her three times a day how stupid and ugly she was, before occasionally beating her.

Jared Kushner is not "on the other side of the aisle." He's not an elected official. He's not an administration official. He's the president's son-in-law and a private citizen. You do not, in fact, have to take meetings with relatives of the president. Some might even say you should *not* do that

B'Tselem's conclusion that Israel is committing genocide was largely sourced, again, not from the death toll but from the overarching mosaic of Israeli behavior which can only be interpreted as an attempt to render Palestinian life impossible to sustain, via destruction of infrastructure+expulsion.
