The order in the 3d Cir case finding that AI training is not fair use, in the context of the use of headnotes/summaries of caselaw is out. While I get that a lot of people will like the outcome, it's a terrible decision that's likely to benefit big business. www2.ca3.uscourts.gov/opinarch/252...

This man is doing more harm to the US military through screaming incompetence than most foreign adversaries could manage through the use of force.

The part that turns me into a rabid harpy is someone will STILL ask “Well why didn’t she just come forward” as if that’s an actual question that needs to be discussed in 2026. (Yes I’m aware)

The Republicans gave Obama wiretapping powers and the lesson they took wasn't "maybe presidents shouldn't have wiretapping powers," it was "we have to make sure all future presidents are Republicans forever" They are acting accordingly now

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

The trouble with book tour is that I can't properly promote and shout about upcoming events when I'm on airplanes and running from one location to the next. Fun fun fun. But! Come see me tomorrow night in Redmond, WA for fun, and the kind of exhaustion that comes only from too much travel.

We all dream of that amazing out-of-nowhere contact from someone with so much faith in our work that they reach out first. And sometimes it happens! But even when it's real, no one legit will judge you for being cautious. Don't bite every hook that's dangled in your tank.

🧵. There are a few games that do interesting things with owning your mistakes. But most games actually do not *expect* you to do that. The failure state exists only to make success feel valuable. They don't actually expect anyone to settle for failing.

Look, everyone is wrong about most things most of the time, and any group that thinks it has better principles or better access to the truth is setting itself up to enable deeply immoral and abusive behavior. It sucks that this could describe dozens of different things, but that's where we are.

Tbh, I think we need to kill the concept of being the idea guy by this point People really misunderstand art making and even working professionally in creative fields because of how people over appreciate "the idea" part of the process

These clowns want to cede the most important decisions in comics storytelling to a fucking bot. And you know this would lead to further underpayment of artists. Boycott any book or publisher that uses this.
Walk me through what the platform actually does.

You put in a manuscript. The system spends time studying the story, including the thesis, the background, the protagonist, and the emotional beats that pay off for a reader, and produces a storyboard that gets you to roughly 60–70% of a finished product. Then an editor, the author, and an illustrator go in and shape that further, because a purely AI-generated output tends to lack soul and be generic. This is not a self-driving car. It's more like handing a Ferrari to someone who already knows how to drive.

Given that AI is ideologically and technologically driven by exploitation, entitlement, theft, plagiarism, sycophancy, narcissism, a refusal to accept consequences and a baseline level of hostility towards human rights, it should surprise nobody that this extends to the industry's treatment of women

there is a certain undercurrent of something that can only be described as puritanism on this site, where understanding a bad thing must mean you're into that thing because apparently the only way to battle bad things is to yell loudly they are very bad someone else better fix them but not like this

Initial Northern Seattle impressions: Roosevelt feels like Bed-Stuy or other less gentrified neighborhoods. Probably because Green Lake took up all the gentrification. Northgate is a mall. Maple Leaf is Stamford, CT, Western Edition. Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood next.
