Labour just don't get it. They don't get how scared people are with extreme weather becoming our new normal. We need voices in parliament that will force them to take wildfires seriously, not quietly shirk responsibility.

Huge El Niño projected to cause more than 450,000 deaths by February

This is incredibly alarming. We cannot go on like this. We need more advocacy for climate action, not just from the environmental movement, but from the political centre.
Screenshot of a Guardian article titled “Huge El Niño projected to cause more than 450,000 deaths by February.” The article, by environment editor Damian Carrington and dated 23 September 2026, says climate scientists estimate that additional heat from a projected strong El Niño could cause more than 450,000 deaths by February, on top of existing climate-crisis-related deaths. It mentions impacts across Indonesia, India, Nigeria and the US, as well as additional deaths from droughts, wildfires and flooding.

This El Niño is a warning. As the planet warms, the risks to communities, economies, and supply chains across the globe become harder to ignore. The answer isn’t more fossil fuels - it’s clean energy, warmer homes, and restored nature.

Awaab’s law is not working, say social housing tenants stuck in mouldy homes
Residents say new legislation in England forcing landlords to fix dangerous hazards is not improving conditions Sarah Killick has been battling problems in her social home for months, including mould and damp. She says the anxiety has been insufferable and she has permanently damaged her teeth from grinding them due to stress. She thought help would come in the form of Awaab’s law, new legislation designed to force social housing landlords in England to fix dangerous hazards, which came into effect in October last year.
