1. This New York Post cover: “Thousands of 9/11 families demand Mamdani be banned from 25th-Anniversary” is a brazen lie. How do I know? I interviewed the organizer of the petition.

The experience of living and working in the US continually taught me the extent and cruelty of policies which purposely overemphasize personal effort and education over systemic changes and greater government regulation because the latter would hurt shareholders of private corporations.

My great-grandfather was among the first Jews sent to Dachau, but it had operated for 8 years prior. He arrived to find a concentration camp already full of communists and other leftist dissidents. The public's acceptance of their incarceration paved the road for his own.

I am partway through Ezra Klein's interview of Morris Katz, and I find it noteworthy that neither of them has observed that women in the campaign saw the danger signs when Katz didn't. Also, all his "outsider" candidates are men. Back to it to see if this dawns on either of them.

important CIDRAP editorial: "Call it what it is—the US has lost its hold on measles elimination" www.cidrap.umn.edu/measles/cidr...
We are very likely going to lose this status, and pretending otherwise does two kinds of harm. It tells the public the situation is borderline and offers a false sense of hope that this year's shots can still save the status, and it hands the people responsible for the decline an easy story in which the outcome looks like a bureaucratic surprise rather than the foreseeable result of dismantling the very systems that secured elimination to begin with.

Elimination was never permanent, and it was never the product of luck. It took close to 40 years of school vaccination mandates, of free shots for the children whose families could not afford them, and of leaders willing to say plainly that the vaccines are safe and that people should get them. The country managed it once, which means the status is reclaimable.

But if the only thing people hear is that the loss is permanent and measles is simply back, the person who already doubts the shot has every reason to skip it and treat the disease as a one-and-done, just like the old days. The old days had a body count. The message that moves people is the true one: The status is gone for now, it is winnable back, and every vaccine given is part of winning it.

an IG story from @nifmuhammad of a picture of Karl-Anthony Towns with text over it saying: "when i wrote that big ESPN story on the Wolves in 2023, there was one game day I was down in the locker room and in the training/catering area, and what really endeared me to KAT was how familiar he was with the workers and how kind he was to all of them. He asked the guy bringing in Gatorade about this son's soccer season, he asked a person bringing in fresh towels how their mom's health was. One of the workers brought their basketball loving/playing teenager in with them and pretty much every other player just gave a nod and silent fist bump but KAT was asking the kid what position he played, what shoes he played in. I think in an ecosystem where you're told constantly that you are larger than life and people exist to serve that reality, I was really overjoyed to see KAT just plainly reject that way of being
