Hot on the heels of our last episode, @schooldaves.bsky.social and I recorded an emergency episode for Little Rock School District, which is talking about, what else, closing schools. Are the named schools the ones the white kids attend? The answer will shock you (it won’t)

Iñárritu never fails to disappoint/make me wonder if he just rips his ideas off others. Birdman felt like a ripoff of Black Swan, and Digger is basically a ripoff of Stephenson’s novel Termination Shock.

@schooldaves.bsky.social and I have a new episode of @budgetcommitteepod.bsky.social dropping on friday, and I’ve been working on a blog post around it. And what Jennifer says here is one side of a malevolent coin. Funding w/o strings on one side, strings w/o funding on the other.
In this process, we're witnessing the birth of a new thing – the unfundable mandate. Education supporters have long criticized state governments for requiring that schools do certain things without providing the resources to do it. That's the classic "unfunded mandate." But now, states are starting to foreclose local avenues for revenue-raising, too – while still requiring schools to deliver an ever-expanding array of services and results. We won't be providing the necessary funding for all that, states seem to be saying. But also, we won't allow you to raise the necessary funding from any other source, either! Good luck with the whole "failing schools" discourse!
But back to DeKalb County and its situation specifically.
