Like all NYers, Jewish NYers deserve to feel safe & welcome here. The pluralistic, multiracial, affordable & caring NYC envisioned by @mayor.nyc.gov creates the best conditions for Jewish—and everyone’s—safety; as the report states, antisemitism must be addressed alongside other forms of oppression.

Our current finance systems force us all to contribute to private banks' profits. That wouldn't be so bad—if they didn't invest in fossil-fueling, union-busting, prison-building, + other death-driving actions. @sylviachi.bsky.social's work shows how, via public-banking, we can disrupt this cycle.

If the public relies on taxing the rich to fund public goods, we'll need the rich to stay rich. 🤔 If we replace the rich (i.e., elite hoarding) with democratic ownership, we'd still need profits. 🤔 We must re-design public finance so that we need neither the rich nor profit to fund public goods. 💡

The "double-entry" method of bookkeeping—under which assets = liabilities + equity, and by which both private and public budgets are maintained—would continue. But here's the brilliant innovation: Under democratic finance, the assets would be THE COMMITMENTS THAT THE GOVERNMENT MAKES TO THE PUBLIC.

Nikola Tesla envisioned a world powered entirely + wirelessly by solar—and he did so way before many could even access fossil-fuel tech. Analogously: now is our time to envision a public finance that can fund everyone's basic needs—and thereby make capitalism' extractive death-drive obsolete.
