This is what it's like doing social media in heritage
A (sadly fake) Wikipedia page for 'Jester's Privilege', cropped to just show the first sentence: 'Jester's Privilege is the ability and right of a jester to talk and mock freely without being punished; for nothing he says seems to matter'.

The biggest life hack and organizing superpower anyone will have is tolerating emotional risk/ discomfort and learning to repair after conflict. Which is why organizing when everyone has AI robots in their pocket validating their every thought and impulse... is... not great.

Talking about my struggles with being overweight still makes me uncomfortable, since weight can carry moral judgment in ways that other health challenges don't. But that fear stops too many struggling from getting treatment that could extend their lives.

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

The US already got a do over. A mulligan. A second chance. Much of the world, especially US allies, were ready to write off Trump’s first term as a fluke. The American people’s choice to put him back in power—as a convicted felon, after an openly bigoted, anti-democracy campaign—showed it was not.

The image is of a four panel comic.
Panel one shows a giraffe tripping on a rock. The giraffe says “woop” as it stumbles.
Panel two zooms in on the giraffe’s face. The giraffe is sweating in embarrassment. We see a thought bubble above the giraffe. The text within the thought bubble reads, “that was embarrassing.”
The third panel shows the giraffe closing its eyes and munching on leaves reassuringly. The thought bubble above the giraffe reads, “but no one will remember.”
The fourth and final panel pans to an elephant staring at the giraffe from behind some bushes.

The bicentennial made such a tremendous impact on American *pop* culture--I remember the Barney Miller episode about it!--there were tricorner hats everywhere, hit songs, a movie, and the logo and local parades all year long. This year it feels as empty as the mall.

You know something is broken when even families making $150K feel like middle-class life is slipping away. Workers’ share of the economy just hit its lowest point since 1947. At the same time, corporate profits are at their highest mark since 1951. People aren’t struggling because they failed.

If the president can rendition legal residents, cut funding for anything he wants, violate all of our treaty commitments, & can monetize the presidency, then he can try to not seat the next Congress/Dems in Jan 27. Folks who swore oaths should be preparing for what stopping that is going to require.

Happy Thanksgiving from these well-fed gents staring into my kitchen
A very chunky gray squirrel sitting on a fence. Seriously, it's like twice as wide as you expect a squirrel to be. It is very fluffy and cute. It has its little hands together like it's saying "Hello, I see you are cooking, any chance of sharing?"A very chunky brown squirrel sitting on a fence staring directly into the camera. It has its little hands and feet pulled together. The expression on its face is a mix of "I see what you're doing in there" and "if you don't give me some of that food I will cut you."

Divided Ninth Circuit panel stays injunction against President Trump’s federalization of National Guard troops in Portland: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us... Judge Graber, who is no firebrand, wrote quite a dissent—encouraging en banc review and some patience on the part of the public:
We have come to expect a dose of political theater in the political branches, drama designed to rally the base or to rile or intimidate political opponents. We also may expect there a measure of bending sometimes breaking the truth. By design of the Founders, the judicial branch stands apart. We rule on facts, not on supposition or conjecture, and certainly not on fabrication or propaganda. I urge my colleagues on this court to act swiftly to vacate the majority's order before the illegal deployment of troops under false pretenses can occur. Above all, I ask
those who are watching this case unfold to retain faith in our judicial system for just a little longer.
