The first year I had Bruce I took him to the Christmas market in Love Park and we split a raclette sandwich. Last year we turned it into a formal tradition so here’s this year’s installment. Merry Christmas, bub.

Every museum should have a Little Guys Tour, and at the end of the tour you can buy reproductions of all the little guys
Egyptian Blue Bes ceramic Statue from the British museum shop, kind of looks like a tiny suspicious bear? He's adorable A middle Egyptian turquoise hippo from the met. He looks despondent and adorable. He has line art of reeds painted on his back and face. A ceramic baby rattle from the met shaped like a pig. However it doesn't look much like a pig, it's giving creature saying ooooooo. It's adorable.Little red earthenware bowl from the met. It has two little humanoid feet on the bottom and looks like he's standing shyly. Adorable.

Personally, I think it takes a deeply incurious moral observer to argue that knowingly implementing policies that will deny people lifesaving care, in a situation where you have a legal duty to provide that lifesaving care, is *not* premeditated murder.

As in Tennessee, this ban does not apply to cis children, because the drugs themselves are not a safety hazard. The only thing at risk is a society’s discomfort with allowing young people to make their own decisions about their own bodies.

Ever wondered why walking around museums is weirdly tiring? At normal speed our legs act like pendulums, swinging forward from the hip & saving us a huge amount of energy. In "museum shuffle" our muscles must do ALL the work of constant readjustment. So cake in the cafe is scientifically justified 🥳

Jesse Singal's life's work is laundering transphobia into language that that cocktail party set finds palatable. This technique attacks a weakness of liberalism and democracy, and it's being exploited ruthlessly right now. You have to treat the shtick like the thing it's pretending not to be.

I had an emergency appendectomy just three weeks ago and almost didn’t go to the ER because it could potentially bankrupt me and that’s the risk many of us weigh when we potentially need emergency care and don’t know how bad the problem is.

A few important fact to remember: S. Korea lived under some form of military dictatorship from 1965-1988! Brazil lived under a military dictatorship from 1964-1985! Democracy is not an abstraction to these folk, it's a vulnerable thing that they want to protect.

The U.S. Constitution has many flaws, but some of our biggest problems aren't in the Constitution. It doesn't have a filibuster. It forbids default on the debt. It authorizes the Voting Rights Act. It bars insurrectionists from office. It makes no one immune from the law.

Lede from a NYT article by Jeremy W Peters: “To get on the wrong side of transgender activists is often to endure their unsparing criticism.”

In my latest newsletter I wrote: "Concern over the existence and safety of trans people in public life had absolutely no impact on this election, and anyone saying otherwise is an asshole." I wanted to share a response I received (CW: anti-trans rhetoric) and how I replied. Zero tolerance policy.
I support the rights of people to be who they truly believe themselves to be and their right to live that life in public.

I do not support compromising the safety of biological females when they go to the bathroom or even to prison.

I do not support a grossly unlevel playing field or swimming pool when it comes to girls' and women's sports. We fought too fucking long and hard against the men to just get to play and now the boys who can't cut it competing against other boys decide to transition to a female appearance in order to win a race. Fuck that!

What are "trans rights" anyway? How is it right to ignore the rights of others in the self-interest of claiming these "trans rights"?

It'll be interesting to see just how many of these trans-girls are still living as trans-girls in 10, 20, or even 5 years.

At this time, we see the people who are being held up as role models of trans life and trans rights and they behave more like crossdressers playing a big joke on everyone. Yes, I know the difference.

Listening to my son who's lived in North Carolina for decades and is a dedicated Blue Dot in a red field explain why the Democrats lost from his neighbors perspective...

Tom Suozzi is absolutely right!

They say exactly the same thing.

For my part, I'm a lifelong Democratic moderate liberal. I've voted for all the losers going back to McGovern. I lived in Manhattan for 25+ years, San Francisco for 16 years, after growing up in Kentucky with a Democratic mother and a classic Republican father who both practiced tolerance, compassion, charity, level-headedness.Lydia- You are upset about a problem that simply does not exist. Teenagers aren't transitioning in order to get a leg up in sports; they're transitioning so they can exist as the most authentic version of themselves. Transitioning is a years-long, arduous process that is done with massive parental and medical involvement. And it is a process that saves lives.

Trans women are not attacking cisgender women in bathrooms, nor are they causing issues in prisons. If anything, they're the ones subject to constant attacks by ignorant people who don't take the time to understand. Cisgender men, however, are assaulting and murdering women every single day. Your problem should remain with them.

As for how long trans people remain trans, the regret level of transition surgery is infinitesimal compared to other surgeries, and many trans people report that the surgery saved them from dying by suicide.

Supporting the rights of people to live publicly as their truest selves is not conditional. You either do or you don't. And if you don't support the rights of trans people to live safe and happy lives, this isn't the newsletter for you.
