The engine is definitely the one they’d use in M&M6 two years later. I wonder if 3DO (who acquired NWC a few months after this preview) might have asked them to retool this game into a Might and Magic?

In 1984, Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris. Then he spent the next forty years making other things and none of them found the same success. They're overlooked, forgotten, and ignored, which is why I wanted to explore what Pajitnov did beyond Tetris. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH_L...

Stumped on this one - anyone have any thoughts what the original magazine scan would be for this image? Would've been from July 1992ish. Checked LOGiN, PC Engine Fan and Famitsu. Of course, just because I did not see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

I'd argue that it's not wrong — spiritual successors aren't sequels — but I'd have omitted it to avoid ambiguity if I'd realised. Sigh. Thanks for the heads up.

An explanation on why Big Walk isn't available on Xbox. bigwalk.game/xbox
Regarding Xbox

In June 2026 we announced that the release of Big Walk would be limited to computers, Switch 2 and PS5. Since then, we have received many messages and comments, asking about a future Xbox release. We would like to address those questions here:

We have made the decision not to release Big Walk on Xbox, in accordance with the Palestinian-led BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement’s call to boycott Microsoft, and their designation of Microsoft Games (and Xbox) as a priority boycott target. If you need help understanding our motives, we would recommend reading about why Microsoft is a BDS priority target, the successes this kind of pressure has already had on Microsoft, and especially, watching this great introductory piece by People Make Games.

It has always been our intention for Big Walk to be played by groups of friends, and we know that keeping the game off Xbox runs counter to those intentions. This decision means that some people will miss out on playing Big Walk with their friends, and we understand the disappointment we’re causing. We are disappointed too.

We would love for people to be able to play the game on Xbox, but not until Microsoft and/or Xbox have been removed as BDS boycott targets.

We’ve made this decision with the belief that meaningful change can be made in the world, that coordinated collective action can confront even the most powerful interests, and that one day, Palestine will be free.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
House House

In the bottom left corner it shows the logo of the developer and/or publisher of the game named 'Dark Landmass Software' featuring a floating island of sorts?

With Epic Games in the news for dumb reasons yet again, I figure now is a good time to evangelize the good word of ZZT. Tim already made a tool that "democratizes" gamedev to the point that anybody could do it, and 35 years later it still has a healthy community of creators free from AI's blight.

anyone wanna take a guess at what "the big hit" was supposed to be?
—Normally, when a company wants to land a huge hit to recover, they look toward safer mainstream genres like fantasy RPGs. But with Resident Evil, choosing horror naturally limited the potential audience to some degree. As you mentioned earlier, aiming for a big hit under those conditions must have seemed like a tough proposition...
Mikami: That's why there was actually another project in development alongside Resident Evil. There was this whole separate title carrying the burden of being "the big hit." It ended up getting cancelled, though. (laughs)

That gave Resident Evil a very different role. Since the other title was supposed to be the big commercial blockbuster, our job was simply to build something that wowed people on a technical and visual level. That was our specific mission. So I felt, "Well, if that's the case, even if we can't sell a million units, we can still do something really interesting." For me personally, that was the starting point.
