Let us walk the woods as feral possibility space. Let us walk the woods in hope of strange sights, fantastical encounters. Stories we can tell to those we love as an intimate folklore of hope that wonder is still abroad. That we still have places of constant magic. – #DAKilroy

Created between 755 and 780 CE, the Maya Vase of the Eleven Gods captures a complex creation conclave. It depicts God L, an old underworld deity with feline ears, smoking a sacred cigar on a jaguar-skin throne. Ten other gods present tribute bundles. Origin: Petén, Guatemala.

This is who Dolly Parton was. ❤️ “My dad couldn’t read and write, so I wanted to do something to make him feel part of something special.” So she did. Dolly turned her love for her dad into the Imagination Library, putting more than 330 MILLION books into the hands of children.

Dolly Parton didn’t spend her dollars on space travel or a trip to the titanic because she was writing checks to put over 330 million books in the hands of children. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has confirmed it will continue to send out millions of books to children after her passing. R.I.P

The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, a music legend and titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library program has earned multiple Library Literacy Awards and, in 2018, she visited us to donate its 100 millionth book to our collection and host a story time. 🦋❤️

I’ll always remember Dolly Parton for the fact that she donated $1 million in 2020 to the research that led to Moderna’s COVID vaccine, as well as millions more for childhood vaccine and cancer research. She was an immensely talented, kind, and giving person.

The Temple of the Feathered Serpent at majestic Teotihuacan, near Mexico City, is adorned with monumental sculptures of feathered serpents and sacred imagery. Built during the city’s height, it reflects the power and religious complexity of one of ancient Mesoamerica’s greatest cities. 150–250 CE.

Not #10minutesfromhome #AOFoto 54 Southport Pier
A photo underneath the old and neglected pier at Southport beach couple of weeks ago.
On the left is a rusted metal support beam/post thingummyjig.
The post has peeling grey paint at the top and the number 54 painted onto it in white paint.
To the right are more support posts with the sand underneath the pier in dark shadow.
Beyond the pier and softly out of focus is a beautiful clear blue sky and a long stretch of beach

Lord of the Dead, Veracruz, 600-900CE. Although small, the piece carries a complex symbolic weight related to beliefs about death and the underworld. The skull's features are reminiscent of representations of Mictlantecuhtli, a deity associated with the world of the dead in Mesoamerica.

So people have clearly been dependent on in caffeine for a long long time, I guess? Late 6th century, Burgas area near Black Sea. In the National Museum of Archaeology in Sofia. There is alt text.
Carved stone head of a wild looking dude, giant big eyes, hair like red vine candy swirls, skinny lips pressed tightly in pain or need. But the eyes are almost Picasso cubist, just, this artist was anticipating Dora Maar by fourteen centuries.

After all this time looking for it! #humor #math #foundontheinternet #nerdhumor
A beach by a lake in the mountains. Blue sky, trees, pretty water. In the foreground there are the remnants of a tree trunk on its side. Roots are exposed. There are two prominent branches at 90 degrees that have another 90 degree turn in each direction to meet back up in what appears to be a natural rectanglish shape.

The text says, “I finally found it… the square root”.
