Waiting for coffee and our turn to enter Nazarin Palace, the Alhambra. But really, waiting for coffee. (14th century monster, about the size of a muffin).

Sitting here Sunday morning with my coffee and loving my spouse a lot. He drank his coffee black so that I could have the last bit of the half and half. I realized that was a very, very Connor thing for him to do. (Connor's one of the heroes in my new release CHECKING OUT THE LIBRARIAN).

My fall watercolor class with @willowheath.bsky.social started yesterday! These bottles are almost finished, just need darker details on the lip and the bottom of the green one. Watercolors are the perfect way for me to concentrate away from a screen so I can come back to writing romance novels.
Photo of a small watercolor painting, still taped to its tablet, showing a bright green glass bottle in front of a blue glass bottle. Also shows messy paint palette and brushes.

Celebrated my new book release with an absolutely delicious chocolate ganache cake, thanks to my even sweeter spouse. It was my best release yet, thank you to everyone who is reading Checking Out the Librarian and enjoying Connor and Jonathan as much as I do. #booksky #romancebooks #writerlife

It's release day for CHECKING OUT THE LIBRARIAN, my spicy gay romantic comedy! I hope you'll love Connor (the big golden retriever) and Jonathan (a very prickly librarian) as much as I do. This is a great book for your weekend! Available in Kindle/KU: www.amazon.com/Checking-Out...
Image of an ebook reader showing the cover of Checking Out the Librarian by Anna Richland. The cover is a cute illustration of a big blond guy wearing a sleeveless Tshirt and sports shorts leaning across a library book trolley to hand a paper coffee cup to another guy. The librarian is an Asian American dressed in professional work clothes (a white button down shirt and gray pants) who has one hand raised to his chest as if to say "what? for me?". There are library shelves in the background and a dog peeking through the shelves to look at a tiny black and white kitten.

Had a great evening at the Role Model concert tonight, highly recommend. Asked the kid if she wanted to go to Vancouver to see it again tomorrow but she had other plans😭

Ok so this is a huge leap - but if you follow me here, and you know what an ARC is and you'd like to get one for that spicy gay romcom I've been talking about for 1.5 years - I'm giving away free ARCs for another week. What to do to get one is in the alt text.
An image of an ebook showing the cover of Checking Out the Librarian by Anna Richland, with headlines that say: Last Week to Get an ARC, Early Reviewers Love It, and several review quotes about deranged banter, funny, and high heat kinky smut.

To get an ARC:

My messages here are open. Message me with where you would leave a review (Amazon or Goodreads preferred but other places count too) and your handle at the review site. I need to verify you are a real person who leaves romance reviews, not a bot or a book hoarder or someone who is going to offer me author services three times a day.

So - DM with the usual verification things, I'll check, and then I'll DM you back with the BookFunnel link. That's it. The link will require you to sign up for my newsletter but you can unsubscribe the first time I send you one, if you want.

I'm hoping for about 200 reviews in the first two weeks, so that's why I'm taking a big leap with such a broad offer.

This happened! The first paperback of one of my books that I've had since 2015 when I was with Harlequin/Carina Press, so this is a huge milestone. That's a year and a half of work right there, 536 pages of gay romantic comedy packaged up in this pretty cover drawn by Alex @hexadonis.

I've had a bit of a stressful morning and this is a lovely art process to watch several times in a row. I have to remember that I'm not just an author, I'm also a painter - and maybe after I finish one more author business thing, I'm going to pull the paints out today.

I love driving past railyards (there are many places here in Seattle where I can see trains), looking at the cars from everywhere,, and the gorgeous art. Because it is art. And i'm glad to know that there's a certain respect between the artists and the railyard workers. Nice.

Paging through an old sketchbook, I found these little illustrations from 2023, before I got serious about restarting my writing career and took my old books back from my former publisher. I can feel the need to be writing in these captions, hiding behind my art. So glad I am doing both now.
A photo of Anna's hand holding a spiral bound notebook. There are several small ink and watercolor drawings of stacks of books, open books, books with their pages flipping. The longest caption says "Sometimes I still dream of publishing more books. But not often. Mostly I think about art now." A photo of a page from a sketchbook that has an ink and watercolor illustration of old fashioned round qwerty asdfgh typewriter keys. The keys have a little bubble over them that has a drawing of a stack of books in it. The caption says, "The dream of every typewriter, to become a novel." It is dated October 1, 2023, inktober day one

I am *really* excited to see complete strangers enjoying the #mmromance I spent a year writing! From Tatiana on Goodreads: "Funny, clever, full of slightly deranged banter...I love it when stereotypes are flipped, in this case the smaller, 'fancier' MC was the top/dom/big spoon...
Photo of an ereader in front of a shelf full of library books. The ereader displays the cover of the male male romance Checking Out the Librarian by Anna Richland. The cover image is an illustration of two men facing each other across a library book trolley (there are a LOT of books in this image!). The man on the left is blond and wearing a sleeveless gray T-shirt and athletic shorts. He's handing a take out coffee cup to the man on the right, an Asian American dressed in business casual for working at the library. He looks surprised at the offer of coffee, and has one hand (with black painted fingernails) raised as if to indicate "who, me?" There are also two pets in the scene. A greyhound dog is next to the sporty blond man, and it is peering through the book trolley shelves at a tiny black and white kitten that is lifting its paw to play.

Don't let the marketing crush, drown, destroy and steamroll the actual writing. You can market later, but the unwritten book doesn't appear by magic. Keep writing. Protect the writing time.

I was a little Midwestern Republican child when 9 to 5 came out, and I never for a moment thought Dolly was "neutral" about anything. Loved her and everything she stood for, even back when I thought differently. I changed, and that only made me admire her more.

I'm working on print formatting for Checking Out the Librarian! I printed the first couple chapters to see how the font looks at life-size. The print version will be 5.5 x 8.5 (and 500+ pages, similar size to Father Material by Alexis Hall.) This is starting to feel so real. #mmromancebooks
Alt text: photo of a printed book title page on top of a stack of papers. The book is Checking Out the Librarian by Anna Richland. There's a pink sticky note that says "Coming Sept 18" and a printed notation in red marker at the bottom of the page that says "Goodreads giveaway now. " A third hand- written note in the corner says "himbo golden retriever x black cat," a reference to popular romance tropes

Connor and Jonathan & their pets & friends are ready for pre-order (or for you to WIN on Goodreads). There's a bit of mistaken identity at the beginning b/c they meet in Portland for a hook up and don't say that they live in Eugene, OR ... and then Connor walks into Jonathan's library. Oops.

A cut out photo ut of an alert tawny colored grayhound dog stretched across the bottom of the post. The dog is looking up at the words: "I'm Dash. I inspired the best doggo ever in Anna Richland's new book, Checking Out the Librarian." In much smaller type it also says "also woof I guess." At the bottom, in a red circle, is the information that the pre-orders are open now, and it releases September 18th. Read on Kindle Unlimited.

The dog is cute and alert and really, you should read Checking Out the Librarian just to meet another fun greyhound like Dash.

My lock screen was so embarrassed by my fandom that it decided to spare my feelings and lie to me.

Waiting for a family member to do a very big thing. (Pls read the alt txt) Should be promoting my #newrelease but fk it. I got you all a new voter! Sure I love my book, but I really love my new (old) American. Altho since the ceremony is starting late, here's a link: tinyurl.com/CheckingOutT...
A photo taken inside a drab office space, with a digital screen that says "Today, I can share my American story. New US Citizen" and an American flag on a pole. It is simple and dignified and there are no stupid gold medallions anywhere to be seen because the America I love is about showing up and doing it without the freaking fake gilding.

My new American has been showing up for this country for 34 years, and now he's finally raising his hand to join us. He's coached softball and baseball, paid taxes, doorbelled for politicians who support equality in all its forms, supported me in all my military deployments, even when I left him with a four-month old baby, pushed baby joggers around park trails, read to the kids at bed time, worked very hard to contribute to the economy (and as I said, paid a lot of taxes, unlike many who spout crap against immigrants).

He's going to be a great piece of America because, like all the immigrants already in our country, he already is a great part of our nation. But now he can vote.

When I was having a bleeding event after a failed needle biopsy (all ok in the end), the LNP was pressing so hard on my chest that I gasped out, "I've got ribs, don't do CPR!" She replied: "Just be glad I'm not on the table using my knee." Me: "Was that an option?" Her: "It's still an option."

This is astounding to follow. 25 yrs ago I was part of the WAARNG, and many of the people I worked with did this type of amazing work. In their regular life, the were teachers, state patrol, nurses, engineers, all sorts of things. But when called upon, they were heroes like this.
