Janet Hill @saskajanet.bsky.social · 22hBlurry and wobbly is a perfect description of the live experience. Zip-zip-zip-zip-zip-zip bird waits for no one 110

Janet Hill @saskajanet.bsky.social · 22hAutumn always brings some melancholy. The symphony of buzzing and chirping grows quiet; the light is thinner. Made me happy today to see one of my favourite trees - a big old Aspen on the other riverbank. Tough to pick out in summer, conspicuous white trunks in winter, and now... look at her glow! 31057
Reposted by Janet HillNature’s Edge @edge-nature.bsky.social · 23hI had the joy today of running into an Abert’s Squirrel. Intimately tied to Ponderosa Pines, it eats the cambium of the new spring growth at the tips of branches. The trees counter using bitter terpenes to reduce squirrel herbivory. Thus the squirrels have favorite trees that have less terpenes. 812418

Janet Hill @saskajanet.bsky.social · 23hIn this photo you definitely NOT appreciate the eye ring, short beak and tail of the Ruby Crowned Kinglet, or how it constantly flicks its wings while foraging almost frantically through shrubs and trees #PlacesWhereBirdsWereJustASecondAgo #worstbirdpic #birds 8933
Janet Hill @saskajanet.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Wilson's Snipe! TIL that their bills are so flexible they can open the tip and swallow invertebrate prey without having to pull out from the mud #birds 517522

Janet Hill @saskajanet.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Also, that back half looks like its several weeks ahead of the front half. Must be an amazing jumper with those springs! 190
