Read Salma Hussain's review of Sima Qadeer's Brown Girls, Grown Up (pub. @nupress.bsky.social) in Issue 35! ...In the end, it is this underlying, pulsating message of self-love in Sima Qadeer’s debut ... that is the most taboo and radical of all. www.thetemzreview.com/hussain-qade...

Governments are chasing AI investment, even as their publics turn against the technology and the data centers that power it. Canada’s Mark Carney has chosen a shameless approach: to cast the opposition as a lack of “literacy” as he sets out to (re)educate Canadians about the benefits of AI.

No Toronto Liberal MP should take being reelected for granted. They continue to play this city. Their own TPA is making plans (900m runway), asking for non disclosure agreements and not revealing anything while MPs keep saying they know nothing, they’ll stand up for TO. Just constant emptiness.

I appreciated this conversation, which offers a great reminder that not everything you write can be your most commented-upon piece of work. It certainly sucks when you publish something and it’s not really responded to in the way that you hoped or imagined it might be. But it’s also … fine.

Doug Ford took out a full-page ad vilifying homeless people because he’s a horrible person and somehow an even worse premier. We know where the real danger lies in this province.
A black and white photo of Doug Ford cosplaying as a construction worker. The background is a forest. It mimics the disgusting ad his government created to vilify homeless people. The words in yellow say, “A safer Ontario means Queen’s Park without Doug Ford.”

White words at the bottom say, “Learn more: protestdougford.com” and “Protect Ontario from Doug Ford.”

Most important novel about the work of research, it dependence on and competition with other work—very timely in its discussion of who gets to do what work & under what conditions, but refreshingly non-presentist in consideration of the professional banishment of researchers from the 1920s/30s on🩵💙

Got an email from the university magazine sharing all their new stories. At least 8 of them were about using AI to do x. So, so embarrassing. We are the biggest university in the country, & one of the biggest in the world. We are doing a hell of a lot more than applying AI to this, that & the other.

obv some irony — or poetry, har har — in this given Spahr’s (excellent) recent work on poetry’s toxic and insular prize culture, but sometimes when the actually good shit, the real Marxist shit, the brilliant later work of a brilliant long career wins there’s no reason not to celebrate !!!!!!!!!
