This magazine's community has been a huge support to me, and their content is incredible. If you can, throw them some support as they actively work to fight a ban on their publication.

When you're thinking about banned books this week, please also consider banned themes. There's so much soft censorship-- i.e. authors of color/queer folks getting low print runs/no marketing budgets. Proving that people still want to read at-risk topics and authors is part of fighting book bans too!

It's #BannedBooksWeek! Time to dive into the banned books on your TBR, hype the banned books you love, request that your libraries buy banned books, and send messages of support to authors whose works are under attack. Let's goooooooo!!!

This remains one of my all-time favorite speculative fiction poems. I'm sure a lot of spiritual teachers wish they could deliver a call to repentance as directly to the moral jugular as this little mermaid poem.

Writers, if you are against AI, do not put your writing into ANY tool that is itself AI. Not to check grammar, not to "prove" you wrote it yourself. Everything you give them becomes part of their data, even if it's only to "improve their service" or whatever BS they tell you.

Hey friends, if you have any books in the Anthropic settlement, please go read @courtneymilan.com & @victoriastrauss.com's timelines! There are some publisher hijinks afoot including multiple publishers "accidentally" claiming 100% of a book's settlement, or claiming 50% on reverted titles.

Personally, I'd first look at the author's website if they have one and see if they list the publication, and if so under what name. Then I'd look to see if the author has made a statement about their name online. In the absence of information, I'd err on doing my best to be respectful, and edit it.

In A Pulse Of Starlight by @sarahgracetuttle.bsky.social, the narrator's wife has always been different, always obsessed with space. The two go on a cruise beyond the asteroids and she leaves for her destiny - but that's not the end of the story.
I was walking my dog when I saw my wife for the first time, dancing on the grass in the park like it was an ancient meadow. There was no music—just the clink of her dangling moon earrings as she spun. I think I fell in love with her then, when all I knew of her was wild rhythm and the way she turned her face up to the sun.

She never hid herself from me. Our first morning together, she told me about the time before—when infinite space was filled with shimmering rainbows and delight. She said she was something else.

I gave her a kiss, and then another, and we never did eat breakfast that day.

A Pulse Of Starlight

One thing I wish people would realize is just how central JK Rowling is to the entire anti-trans ecosystem. Looking at a network node analysis of the top 200 anti-trans X accounts, she is the most central figure spanning both sides of the Atlantic from Republicans to Labour.
A network graph visualization on a dark background showing connections between various accounts. The central, highly connected node is labeled "J.K. Rowling," with lines radiating out to many other nodes color-coded by region (UK, US, etc.). A detail panel on the right displays stats for her account, including her role as "Author & commentator," an in-degree of 153, an out-degree of 84, and 14 million followers.A scatter plot graph on a dark background comparing accounts based on "followers (log)" on the x-axis and "in-degree" on the y-axis. The data points are color-coded by region. J.K. Rowling is highlighted as a major outlier in the top right corner, possessing the highest number of followers and the highest in-degree. Other labeled points lower on the graph include various politicians, individuals, and campaign organizations.

I think we need to give people the benefit of the doubt honestly, until proven otherwise. We need to ask questions, have conversations, and think critically before passing judgement. Social media makes it too easy to jump into the hype before the full picture is revealed.
