As a comics writer I'm the first domino in a long row. If I miss my deadline, I'm handing crunch to my everyone else on my team. And that crunch compounds the deeper into the process we get, so my "oops I'm two days late" could turn into my letterer's "I only have three hours to get this done"

Text from my Flash Gordon comic script, which reads:

THE HORSESHOE CRABS: These are horses that are currently halfway through the process of carcinisation, if carcinisation happened from the bottom up. They can all look like different types of horses and should be visually distinct – a palomino, a thoroughbred, etc. Structurally, everything from the body up is massive, hellish clydesdale; but instead of horse legs emerging from the body, we have six crab legs, plus two huge claws in front. These things are muscular, glistening, and radiate power. They should read as halfway between horse and crab, with the dimensions of the body still fairly horse-like.

Here’s the horse-parts checklist:
✔️Head
✔️Horse ears
✔️Horse nose
Horse eyes → eyestalks
✔️Horse mouth
Normal horse teeth → baleen
✔️Neck
Mane → lots of little tentacles
✔️Torso/abdomen
Tail → one BIG tentacle
Legs → Crab
Hooves → ??? Honestly, I could go either way on this. I want to leave it to the artist in terms of what’s more fun to draw (standard crab legs or crab legs with hooves on the ends)
