The director of the 1997 sci-fi film, which has often been misunderstood, says the gung-ho soldiers who are its heroes "are fascists without knowing that they’re fascists. That’s the point.”

There were some incredible posts at the height of the NFT bubble

@TaschaLabs

If you make a NFT of a real diamond, and the diamond itself gets destroyed in a fire tomorrow, you still have the same asset.

Because the token still exists and is in limited supply just as before. Nothing has changed.

What NFT is doing to the concept of asset, few understand.

There’s an aggressively paid for influence op going on right now to defend AI slop as art and protected speech across platforms. AI execs realize they have a problem and don’t wanna get Marie Antoinette’d. The free ChatGPT trip is the tip of the iceberg. First person to nail it down gets a Pulitzer.

My take is that Emily Wilson has the problem many people do. She cannot stop reacting to the version of the movie she would have made instead of the version someone else made. She is a great translator. She's not a very good film critic.

Alan Moore’s latest novel has an acknowledgements section in which he thanks the universe, a moon goddess, and a python god. it also includes this line: “Existence is a stupefying stroke of luck and we should all feel grateful to be part of it, even when much of it's on fire and overrun by Nazis.”
Acknowledgements First of all, I think I should acknowledge that this universe, with its precisely balanced forces which allow suns, worlds and galaxies to form, is an astounding mathematical unlikelihood, and that this planet, where conditions have permitted orchids, earwigs, whales, bacteria and us is, equally, statistically preposter- ous. Existence is a stupefying stroke of luck and we should all feel grateful to be part of it, even when much of it's on fire and
overrun by Nazis. Secondly, before I move on to thank those that everybody else can see as well, I must extend my gratitude to Glycon and Selene - or, if you prefer, the substrate of my consciousness they represent - for my continuing ability to progress in my mind and in my writing, even as my body becomes more embarrass-
ing, like avocado bathroom fittings from the 1970s.

The driver side door has a sign that says “LIVE POULTRY.“ The driver can’t believe what he’s hearing. The Riddler says, “OK sucker – – your CARGO or your LIFE!”
“You want to steal my CHICKEN TRUCK?!? Mister, you don’t know what you’re DOING!“

This is exactly the phenomenon I was discussing in my thread yesterday (will attach below). Even if you can show a video is faked with AI, some people just don’t care - as long as it supports what they want to believe.
But Prof van der Linden warned that research also suggests many people do not seem to care if content is AI-generated or not.
"As long as it resonates with their identity and world-view they will often still endorse the content and share it with others because it signals agreement with a larger agenda," he said.
As one commenter on the "Great British People" Facebook page put it: "It's probably AI but the fact is that he is right about everything".

People keep asking Alan Moore questions about comics he's disowned when they could spend more time asking him questions about things he actually gives a shit about—and get answers as glorious as this.
A quote from Alan Moore that reads:

"When I became a magician at the age of 40, I took it very seriously, and it has transformed my life. There’s no difference between magic and creativity. One part of magic is changing the consciousness of other people. Writing has always been the best way of doing that. If a wizard puts a curse on you, maybe your hands weigh too much, big deal. If you offended a bard they might put a satire on you, destroy you in the eyes of everybody who knows you, your own eyes, and if it’s good enough people might still be laughing at you in 200 years’ time. I think a lot of us have forgotten what art is for. It’s an engine of human progress. Art and culture stay with us. It’s the wars we’re ashamed of."

Happy 50th anniversary to “All the President’s Men” — a film that owes its existence to Redford, who bought the film rights, developed the script and cajoled a reluctant Woodward & Bernstein. I thought it was “a great character study,” he said later. But, for months, “they didn’t return my calls.”
