Curious from the Guardian. I didn't "warn the party" - it wasn't a party meeting! I said progressives needed to separate those thinking about voting Reform from the Reform leadership. I didn't say we "need to seek to understand" - pretty clear it's about inequality. Other than that - perfect!
Green leaders warn party it must listen to reform voters concerns to confront inequality.

He’s right, and to think otherwise is to commit a basic category error that never gets corrected, because the media and politicians refuse to acknowledge it. Under a human rights based framework, states cannot have human rights, since states are not people; and Israel has committed genocide in Gaza
Zack Polanski says no country has the right to exist, including Israel
The leader of the Green Party argues that such debates are nothing but semantics and repeats claim that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza

The section that the Guardian censored… By Prof Judith Butler
It is very appalling and sometimes quite frightening to see how trans-exclusionary feminists have allied with rightwing attacks on gender. The anti-gender ideology movement is not opposing a specific account of gender, but seeking to eradicate "gender" as a concept or discourse, a field of study, an approach to social power. Sometimes they claim that "sex" alone has scientific standing, but other times they appeal to divine mandates for masculine domination and difference. They don't seem to mind contradicting themselves.
The Terfs (trans exclusionary radical feminists) and the so-called gender critical writers have also rejected the important work in feminist philosophy of science showing how culture and nature interact (such as Karen Barad, Donna Haraway, EM Hammonds or Anne Fausto-Sterling) in favor of a regressive and spurious form of biological essentialism. So they will not be part of the coalition that seeks to fight the anti-gender movement. The anti-gender ideology is one of the dominant strains of fascism in our times. So the Terfs will not be part of the contemporary struggle against fascism, one that requires a coalition guided by struggles against racism, nationalism, xenophobia and carceral violence, one that is mindful of the high rates of femicide throughout the world, which include high rates of attacks on trans and genderqueer people.
The anti-gender movement circulates a spectre of "gender" as a force of destruction, but they never actually read any works in gender studies. Quick and fearful conclusions take the place of considered judgments. Yes, some work on gender is difficult and not everyone can read it, so we have to do better in reaching a broader public. As important as it is, however, to make complex concepts available to a popular audience, it is equally important to encourage intellectual inquiry as part of public life. Unfortunately, we are living in anti-intellectual times, and neo-fascism is becoming more normalized.

Dr. Kaltiala has now responded to our criticisms of her study through Gender Clinic News, an anti-trans blog whose author describes transgender healthcare as "gender ideology." Her response is notable less for what it addresses than for what it avoids entirely. My counter-response:
Dr. Kaltiala has now responded to our criticisms of her study through Gender Clinic News, an anti-trans blog whose author describes transgender healthcare as "gender ideology" and refers to advocates of gender-affirming care as "gender ideologues.” Her response is notable less for what it addresses than for what it avoids entirely. Of the major methodological flaws identified in this fact check—surveillance bias, the misanchored index date, immortal time bias, the binary outcome measure, and the abusive clinic practices—she engages with almost none of them.

She does not address surveillance bias at all. She does not address the fact that her study pegged its before-and-after comparison to the date (+2 years) a patient first walked into the clinic—not to when treatment actually began, and how this creates an immortal time bias. She does not explain why, despite having access to Social Insurance Institution records showing when each patient first filled a hormone prescription, she chose not to anchor the comparison to treatment. She does not address the fact that for many patients, the two-year gap after the index date expires while they are still mid-assessment. She does not address how the binary outcome measure—any visit, yes or no—means a single downstream referral from a routine monitoring check-in is enough to be counted as evidence of “psychiatric treatment needs.” She does not address the abusive clinic practices documented by former patients at her own facility, or the patient accounts collected by Kehrääjä describing invasive sexual prodding of minors, systematic deadnaming, reporting of trans youth to CPS, and abuse. These are fundamental design choices and contextual realities that predetermined the study’s outcome, and her response is silent on all of them.To the one substantive rebuttal she does make: she claims that Finland’s specialist psychiatric services are reserved for those with “severe disorders” and that patients would not reach specialist-level care without genuine need. But this misses the point of the surveillance bias critique entirely. The study claims to exclude appointments with the gender identity assessment team itself—but it cannot exclude what those appointments produce. The Finnish Medical Journal documented that hormone therapy patients were monitored every 3-6 months “in close cooperation with the adolescent psychiatry unit.” At each of these regular check-ins, clinicians are actively screening for psychiatric concerns. If anything is flagged, and notably this team had a hair trigger for flagging concerns, the patient is referred to separate specialist psychiatric services for evaluation. If a referral is made during assessment for any problem at all, the patient may continue to require visits long after, even for conditions entirely unrelated to gender dysphoria, such as ADHD or unrelated trauma. Those downstream referrals are not excluded from the study’s outcome variable. Damningly, even if that psychiatrist determined there are no issues and cleared the patient, it still would be registered as a negative impact of trans care, as the visit would be logged.

This is textbook surveillance bias: when you screen a population every three months for psychiatric issues, you will find and refer more people than in a population that is never screened. The general population controls in this study had no equivalent system watching them. The “dramatic increase” is not evidence of deterioration—it is what happens when you take a group selected for having almost no prior psychiatric contact and place them inside a system that screens them every three months and refers them onward routinely.

Dr. Kaltiala’s own study concedes the point that defeats her rebuttal. Her study states: “A limitation of this stu…

The group reportedly orchestrated Farage’s appearance before the US House Judiciary Committee in September, where he accused the UK government of clamping down on free speech. It also reportedly brokered a secret meeting between Farage and top state department officials in London that same year.
