It was either that or a single ballot in a general election where Smith ran on these policies. But that would require the UCP to run a campaign that was related to the ideas and policies they would use to govern. You can probably see the conundrum they had to mismanage.

I don't believe turnout should have been in doubt. Canada is important to Canadians. An easy, obvious win or not, our country is clearly being threatened by separatists & the UCP engineered a foolish crisis to serve Smith's radical base. Push has come to shove and people know we need to show up.

The UCP's primary objective of governing is not to solve actual problems but to create issues, real or imagined, that keep Albertans worried & in the dark. They do this to reinforce excuses to blame others b/c: -it's easier -better clickbait than solving real problems &, -avoids #UCP accountability

I'll accept the proposal as long as we also pause all construction on road lanes and parking for cars. You know, just until we figure out a safe solution to this "controversy". Get some skin in the game for the likes of McLean to face a cost of recycling nonsense & division.

Even if this connection didn't exist (Wilson happily agrees it does), this story shows there is a dark industry that exists to push propaganda & profit from division. There are many such grifters manipulating parts of our society for their own profit but this one is big & our very own #Alberta.

That's a good q. I suspect these kinds of communities build trust by using the same coded language to feel part of something bigger than themselves and the comfort of confirmation bias and validation makes it easy to trust others in the club even if they are wearing a hood to hide their identity

Really more of a scheme than a plot but otherwise this is what Danielle Smith and the UCP want, a perpetual excuse to "fight" & gripe about Ottawa instead of governing the province to fix real problems. Basically, an excuse to distract from the facts of all the UCP money wasting scandals & failure.

You know that saying about how the way they treat asylum seekers is the way they’d treat everyone else if they thought they could get away with it? Well,
The Tories said the reduced subsistence allowance would be loaded onto pre-paid card that would not allow cash withdrawals, and would "prevent spending" on alcohol, cigarettes, or gambling.
The party is yet to detail how its proposal would work, but shadow welfare secretary Helen Whately said it would be "a version" of the pre-paid Aspen card issued to asylum seekers living in government-funded accommodation.
These cards cannot be used to make contactless, telephone or internet payments, whilst asylum seekers whose applications have failed cannot withdraw cash.
