New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

Revenge of the Sith isn’t even the best of the prequels. The problem here is that prequel babies who grew up on the Clone Wars show are now old enough to be using Letterboxd when they should instead be banned from public life.

These traitorous goofs offered up our FRESH WATER????? Full exposé on these idiot Alberta separatists here: archive.is/rhGUj

Excerpt from the Globe article reads: “A Globe and Mail investigation has found that Republican political operatives were on the ground in Alberta this year to assist the separatist campaign in its bid to leave Canada, while harbouring their own aspirations for the province to secede.
The Globe also found that when Alberta separatist leaders went to Washington to meet with the U.S. State Department, they offered up key assets from the province's resource portfolio, including access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil, in exchange for help transitioning to independence.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta's pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.”

My newest #L5R fanart piece, featuring my OC Daidoji Tama felling a recently turned yobanjin zombie. Spent way longer on this than I intended, but such is it with drawing some times - still not super happy with it, but I do like Tama's pose and her overall flow here.

A digital art piece featuring two characters at night surrounded by fog, close to the path up distant mountains (and a distant third character that can be barely made out off to the right corner, on top of one of the mountains). The moon is full on this particular night, and there are heavy clouds scattering the sky. The figure on the left is a man from the north, beyond Rokugan's borders (called a yobanjin) who unfortunately was raised as a zombie. He is also unfortunate in that he is struck by a a blade in this very moment, and about to perish from the damage, thus his astonished facial expression, and somewhat staggered pose. He wears simple clothing in orange-red hues with a yellow belt, a grey wolf's pelt over his shoulders and a damaged headband. The woman who just struck him has black hair, a determined expression, and wears a purple travel kimono with long sleeves, tuckered into darker hakama-type pants. One can also make out part of her belt, where her saya (scabbard) for her wakizashi can be partially seen - the wakizashi itself, however, is missing (it was lost some time before this scene). On her right hand, she sports a yellow-orange specially-made half-glove, partially to obscure the damage done to her hand (she has lost two fingers as part of her journey) and partially to make it easier to hold weapons with only three fingers. She wields a butterfly sword.
