I’ve talked to some folks who have other signs in their yards and the feeling is that they think she’ll win anyways and they’re not excited enough about her to piss someone off with a sign. Some of them I think might be voting for Andrea James. But really, do we want to beat Minogue or not?

There were a ton of yard signs here for state house D candidates since all three of our seats had contested primaries, and landlord owned housing often had signs for the more conservative options which were not the occupants‘ choices. But a lot of people are reluctant to be seen supporting Healey.

Anyway I have a bunch of Healey-Driscoll signs that I’ve had a hard time giving away even if I’m reasonably confident she’ll win.

The problems that often make the left less effective at political success long predate social media. Some of them are traceable back many decades to turn of the last century political theory. But it is true that social media’s problems are an impediment for us more than our opponents.

Having someone tell you that the Covid pandemic never happened, it’s just a story people tell each other to make the first Trump admin seem worse than it was is pretty weird.

He can’t do it alone, it helps that he has a supportive party and media apparatus, but he’s been able to rewrite lived history for an alarming number of people.

This activity is consistent with a campaign for a state legislature, not a serious effort at running for United States senate.

As a New Englander the way “Scituate” was pronounced was painful. Not the only painful thing about this but it was like a knife in the ear.

Interesting thing about getting into campaigns is you start pulling voter histories and see how many people talk big and don’t vote.

Rooting for Brian Fitzpatrick to go down this year. He runs genuinely ugly campaigns, and it is always disgusting to me when labor unions, environmental groups, or gun safety groups back him. A vote for Brian is a vote for a Republican House. www.huffpost.com/entry/bob-ha...

Signs can be misleading as a measure of popular support, especially say where I live where a lot of housing is landlord owned and the signs are there for the landlord, not the occupant. Signs don’t vote, still though, they’re useful awareness raising and name exposure tools on some races.

I tried to walk in both worlds for a while but the lack of effort and messaging discipline in activist space eventually made it untenable since all it was doing was hurting my role and reputation in campaign space.

Saganomics @saganomics.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Having been in activist spaces it became frustrating seeing awareness without power to make it meaningful which is why I got out of those spaces and into campaign strategy.

The Democratic nominee withdrawing from the race completely is one thing, staying nominally in the race and on the ballot on a major party’s line without campaigning is something else.

Reed *is* rooting for the republicans to win the midterms though, and Bankhead staying on the ballot advances that goal, which is what I think matters here.
200
Saganomics @saganomics.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
If Bankhead had actually been seriously campaigning since the primary this might be a more credible argument, but she hasn’t been. This is someone who appears indifferent to the outcome in November and doesn’t really need to be on the ballot.

It improved a bit for 2018 and 2020 because state supreme courts tossed maps in PA and NC but it was really bad.

This is a real attempt to run or is it just to keep his campaign committee open?

Saganomics @saganomics.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Newsom‘s messaging and behavior is catered more towards the press than the voters. My read on this is if he runs he wants to be the media’s rooting interest, doing his campaigning for him, but even if he doesn’t run it opens up options in punditry. I think he tries running at least through 2027.

Zuckerberg isn’t much of a performer, but to be fair, although his self-mythology is not as storied as Musk’s, it does exist. He studied Latin and Greek, quotes the Aeneid, named a daughter August, and once told Evan Osnos that Augustus bought two centuries of peace with a harsh approach. “What are the trade-offs in that?” he asked.

Thoughtful as this may sound, it’s an optimizer’s question — and it’s the oldest argument for the ends justifying means ever made, asked as if it were a product decision. How many genocides to make an omelette? What’s the engagement rate for a pogrom?

There is a cacophony of noises out there. Russians planning to assassinate European officials, the US president riding to Vladimir Putin's aid, the Russians increasingly targeting Ukrainian civilians to break their will. The one constant tune? Russia is getting desperate.

I am yet again encouraging people to spent like 5 hours a week volunteering for a campaign. Make it a state leg or municipal one, you will get to know the candidate and this may change your view of how politics works

Earlier today we were at a hospital for childbirth prep classes (since we’re expecting later this month) and all the cafeteria menu boards were GPT graphics that made the food look unsettling. I would think Sodexo would have better resources than that but it’s what a lot of people want to do.

no one reads the articles. all of the quotes assume this is because the party is broke because of (spins wheel) whatever that person is mad about today, but the reason they’re scrambling is because they’re trying to run moonshot campaigns in deep red districts they ordinarily would never attempt

Three or four years ago a grocery store randomly had a big pile of these, on sale for like $2 each. I impulse bought one and just now got around to watching it for the first time since I saw it in theaters when I was in high school. It’s not that good.

Why are people comparing the politics of 1993 when I was 9 years old, Reagan-Bush had dominated politics for over a decade, crime was multiples higher, and the democrats still had a large conservative southern wing, to today. It is 2026 and I am 42.

I maintain that you should have to manage at least one (1) campaign for state legislature or serve a term on a local Dem committee to get a pundit’s license so you don’t promote counterfactuals like this and get disabused of this nonsense that winning elections is easy and we just don’t want to.
