I still remember the one time I heard that from a professor in undergrad. That comment also helped me a lot later in life. Like reading a book and focusing on taking away the main idea, rather than stressing out trying to remember every little thing.

This is neat. I haven’t had a chance to go through it in detail yet, but it looks like you’re using PyMC + Plotnine? I’ve been exploring similar integrations myself. Are you using any existing libraries, or is most of it custom tooling?

I wasn’t either until I did a big change a couple years ago in the fall. After getting through the holidays it was very much like “if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball”. But I agree with atypical starts, and spring makes a lot of sense

-- WEEK 12 #NFL 🏈 Playoff Leverage -- Here you can see 1.) how the playoff probability of each team changes depending on whether they win or lose the next game, and 2.) the combined playoff leverage of the teams involved in each game, sorted by kickoff time.
The chart shows NFL team logos. Their position corresponds to the current probability that the team will make the playoffs this year.
Comets go from the logos to the right and left. Their final position corresponds to the probability that the respective team will make the playoffs if it wins or loses in the current week.
At the end of the comets are the probabilities in percent.
The probabilities are based on 50,000 simulations of the remaining NFL season.

oooh new version of Positron just released and it has (1) github copilot chat and (2) automatic {dplyr} code generation based on filtering/sorting/etc that you do in the data viewer #rstats
Me saying "hey it's github copilot chat in my positron" Automatically generated dplyr code that matches the filtering and arranging that I did by clicking on columns in the data viewer

We bought our house a couple years ago and took on replacing floors by ourselves. I spent the entire time I budgeted for the project simply removing staples from the mix of wood and carpet upstairs. will never take that on again lol

yeah I didn't think about that because it took some fumbling for me to get used to it, but once I got the coordinates down it was nice to be able to map labels do you build a custom class that wraps arviz.InferenceData to extend it?

Ryan Plain @ryanplain.bsky.social · 05/06/2025
What are some features in Arviz you like? I've been using PyMC to learn, it's a good tradeoff of complexity/abstraction for me, but I struggle with the posterior a lot. I'm typically porting it back to R via reticulate/parquet - but hearing you say that furthers its worth getting comfortable with

Can see the valley that Arizona comes out of around the midway mark of the season. They do trend down a bit after that, but they had a great stretch there specifically against the Bears, Jets, and Seahawks.
