We used to call this stupidity. There were smart people and stupid people and we let the smart people do the things they were good at and the stupid people were taken care of and didn't need to worry about what the smart people were doing. But now we let the stupid people think they're smart.

A somewhat janky digital rendering of the 60s version of the USS Enterprise rendered in greenish grays with orange highlights on the front of the nacelles and the deflector dish. There is a burst of whooshing rays behind it but the background is the default natural paper color I’ve been using and not space black. Reddish-orange text around the ship set in a Star Trek TOS font reads ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

Can you imagine being a Virginian at the start of the rebellion and realizing your entire alliance has one iron works, one powder mill, 10% of the railroad miles and all its capital assets tied up in slavery and not factories to produce war materiel. Oh and the US Navy has closed every port.

NEW: Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass with an estimated 800,000 people in Paris on Saturday. At a migrant house before Mass , he said the history of humanity “is not written by those who give the impression of winning by imposing themselves and ‘dominating the room,’ but by those who ‘make room.’”

Drawing 800,000 in Paris, Pope Leo XIV Calls on the Church to “Make Room” for Migrants and the Poor
“No one is so poor as to have nothing to give.” Before Mass, the pope sat with migrants and told catechists to respect each person’s pace. Six altar servers with Down syndrome served his Mass.

Yeah, I think so. The breadth increases while the depth dies. We have access to everything, but everything arrives flattened, films without color, objects without craft, buildings without place, art without thought or soul. An infinite menu of impoverishments.

It’s amazing as we near the inevitable bubble pop that these paragons of rapacious greed are asking to slow down the investment. They know the bubble they created will crater the world economy. Trying to get ahead of the rightfully placed blame.
