I heard the term ‘meat proxy’ recently, meaning someone who places themself as a human middleman between an employer and genAI, and it is simultaneously a perfect term for the practice, and existentially depressing when you realise how many want to nominate themselves for the role.

i get why AI is so depressing to me. because covid already shrunk my world to almost nothing, where almost all of my life revolves around socializing and watching videos on the internet (which is being ruined by AI) and creating creative works through coding (which is being ruined by AI), often using open source tools and libraries (which are being ruined by AI)

i already had so little and now even that is being rotted away before my eyes

Well Dweller is such a beautiful game There's clear inspiration from Hollow Knight, some Celeste in there, I think a bit of Little Nightmares, and it's got such a wonderful creepy/cute vibe to it, real creepy children's fairytale kinda thing going. I'd nearly immediately recommend it.

Also I feel like people don't want to accept that art made out of spite can be incredible, it's not inherently bad. We don't need a "morally good" reason for art to exist. I'd rather hear a creator's intense emotions about a given topic over making something as inoffensive to the public as possible.

i don't use AI but my motivation to learn and create has been absolutely shredded recently just by its existence. really difficult to think there's a point to any of it when the productivity-and-tree-burning machine will just do it faster and better anyway. i used to be excited by technology :(

Our dev speed has ~5x almost overnight

Quality has not gone down because we're all experienced devs and we're careful how we use AI and we don't let it make decisions regarding project structure or design patterns. However, I'm seeing less and less glaring mistakes made by the AI.

We're still reviewing generated code but I suspect not for long, the code is better than what most devs I know can write, at 20x the speed. The temptation to just push and move on is huge and irresistible.

There is no joy or sense of accomplishment. No pride in making something clever or quickly, and all progress is associated with the AI and not with you.

The market is dead. Nobody has money to spend. We're still working but leads have dropped off a cliff.

There is no going back. If we stop using AI we'll be out of business in a month.

There is no space for junior devs. I honestly don't know how to incorporate a junior into a team anymore (which is something I used to do for decades). Every time we tried they just become a meat proxy for AI while learning nothing, and getting in the way.

Everything regarding managing a team and a project has changed, and nobody knows how to do it anymore. I lost the ability to correctly estimate work required for a task, for example.

Everyone hates this. Most of devs my age are planning early retirement and are just waiting to be laid off.

People that use AI for coding don't learn anything. To understand code you have to write it, and nobody is writing it. Maybe understanding and reading code will become obsolete soon? I don't know.

Everyone I asked feel they are becoming dumber and losing their focus. I know I am.

It's a little surprising, but I'm pretty disappointed with classified Lara croft. I'll admit I'm not as into classified as much anymore but her articulation is much weaker than I remember, there's basically nothing at the head or waist. That, and the hands can't really hold any of her accessories.

This should be illegal. It shouldn't be up to estates. Digital resurrection should be something people have to opt into when they're alive. Talking to some friends made me realize that if you un-Decepticon Awakening Bumblebee, he'd be a pretty perfect Bumblebee figure. So I threw this little edit together (the head is the Achai upgrade). Hoping reprolabels and some upgrade companies get on this.
