It's #kidlitartpostcard day! Hello hello I am Deven, an illustrator in the SF Bay area. I am looking for work in middle grade and early readers, including covers. I have worked and 3 books so far and would love to make more! dhoover.art

Two kids explore a haunted house. Both look very spooked! One kid is dressed in a purple turtleneck sweater, blue jeans, and has a PKE meter in his hands. It's going crazy. The other is dressed in a green jacket, a yellow shirt, and jeans. She's holding a butterfly net, which I guess is to catch ghosts with. They both hear a spooky whooooooooo coming from the hallway behind them.

IJust finished the first season of Dragon Strikers and I am so in love with the animation. Character designs and world are super cool, despite it being about sports (sorry 😅). Loads of fun and flashy magic, teen shenanigans, great voice acting, and irresponsible adult chars that belong in jail. 🤣

We live in the most inane timeline. Insert meme of man cutting branch he's sitting on. I am glad they're experiencing consequences but also I'd rather nobody was experiencing this, ya know? And those consequences are miniscule compared to the harm.

Happy #BiVisibilityDay especially to all the Bis that are yet to find out that Bi is a bit of a misnomer cause it isn't so binary and you can still be Bi and: 1. Not be equally attracted to men and women 2. Not be attracted to just those 2 genders 3. Be in a seemingly straight relationship

As a queer Canuck, something I note every queer workshop I run—there's always one person saying "such a small percentage of people"—is a basic fact: There are more trans people than there are Canadians. Canada is 0.5% of the world's population. Trans people are—conservatively—estimated at ~1%.

You know how AI bros love using the phrase the genie is out of the bottle and can't be put back? I genuinely think that's them making sure when they indeed mess up in a way that's hard to fix (like maybe now) they can make it sound inevitable. It wasn't inevitable. It was conciously done.

Watched Practical Magic 2 last night and really enjoyed it. I'm a Practical Magic 1 fan so it was such a nice surprise to get this. While I still think the first one is stronger, especially the ending, 2 was also such fun. Loads of sad feels and laughs.

Maple Story Classic dropping October 21st (6th for Founder's Package) and I can't wait to re-experience my first MMO. Yes it was grindy, had a mix of good and bad player interactions (change channel! 🙄), and terrible platforming. But it also had gorgeous art, great music and made me art more.

I get the benefits of weekly episode drops, especially the social ones. But please don't act like we didn't binge watch things. I may not have seen 5 episodes of Daredevil in a row when I was a teen but I did see Lois and Clark, Hercules, and then Xena before dinner, Voyager after.

I do wish he'd included my answers to these two questions, they're really important, especially the last one!

What's the biggest barrier that remains and how can we overcome it?
The largest barrier we face is not unique to the games industry, it's baked into capitalism. The incredible power imbalance between capitalists and workers means they can make decisions that impact us in ways that are incredibly difficult and time consuming to respond to. Rockstar executives can decide to fire 34 union organizers in a moment, and it takes months if not years to fight. Companies can do redundancy after redundancy and there is little the workers can do to stop that from happening in those moments until we build up enough collective power to apply enough pressure against company owners and executives.

There's no single answer as to how we overcome the power imbalance. We try and experiment with many different things to solve and address issues. We build relationships and trust and work together to take action. We improve things bit by bit and slowly, ever so slowly we build our power together. Overcoming capitalism is a generational project and one that may not complete in our lifetime, but it's worth working towards now so those who see it come to fruition will reap the benefits. Unions are an integral part in building up the knowledge, skill, and confidence to change the world on a local to worldwide scale.

Anything you'd like to add? Anything people are NOT talking about enough?
The amount of care work that people in unions do is absolutely astounding. Imagine someone who has just been severely mistreated or laid off and has their world turned upside down. The thing they need most is someone to be there for them, listen to them, and help them figure out what their options are. When mistreatment happens on the scale of an entire industry, it takes an overwhelming amount of care work to respond to each incident. We need to build up our individual and collective caring abilities so that we can get through it instead of being constantly dysregulated and overwhelmed.

A neighborhood park surrounded by trees, with a jungle gym, sand pit, and benches. A border collie looks up at girl happily. The girl - scruffy short red hair and in jeans, tee shirt, plaid overshirt - is standing next to a sign indicating "No Dogs Allowed" and is shrugging at the dog apologetically.
The text on the card reads "Michael Dashow, mdashow-kidlitart.carrd.co, repped by Vicky Weber @ TBA"
