Even if you've never been a union member, the attacks on unions have cost you money. The typical worker would be earning $5,000 more a year if unions were as strong today as they were five decades ago

Trump's mass deportations were sold as a major jobs program, but they're still failing to help U.S.-born workers

Today's jobs report came in weaker than expected. The economy added 57k jobs in June and prior months were revised down. April and May are a combined 74k lower than previously reported. Analysts believe the World Cup added 40k to June numbers—without that, job growth would have been 17k. #EconSky

Year over year real hourly wages continued to fall in May. The CPI grew 4.2% in May, beating out nominal wage growth and leading to a 0.8% fall in real wages. Accelerating price inflation is the real culprit but decelerating nominal wage growth indicates a weakening labor market. #NumbersDay

Inequality is the primary reason affordability feels out of reach for so many U.S. families. Without the massive redistribution of income to the top, middle-class households would have $19,000 more in annual income

BLS data show inflation rose to 3.3% in March, meaning real wages only grew 0.2% over the year. If inflation continues to increase, it's likely we see negative real wage growth in the coming months.

The Hispanic unemployment rate (UR) climbed to 5.2% last month. This was driven by a sharper than usual rise in the UR of Latinos, to 4.5%, which reversed the January gains. The UR of Latinas (5.0%) also kept the upward trend that started late last year in December. #JobsDay #EconSky

To me, today's jobs report is what entering a recession looks like. Could we pull up? Sure. But if we look back and end up dating an official recession that starts 3-6 months from now, this is what it would look like today - rapid softening/deterioration in the labor market.
