Very interesting piece/take by the esteemed Andrew Leach. TL;DR (but you should!) version: one of her proposed constitutional amendments would make it *harder* to build pipelines, not easier. It might, in fact, give a progressive BC government a veto over them. leach.substack.com/p/is-daniell...

Is Danielle Smith looking to hamstring the Pacific Link pipeline?
The constitutional amendment contemplated in Question 9 would do just that

This is a good day to ponder what an amazing deal B.C. residents have enjoyed thanks to public auto insurance. Avg nominal premiums are no higher than 9 years ago when J.Horgan was elected Premier, vs 45% avg increase in Canada and 119% in next-door Alberta. Data from StatsCan. #bcpoli

This contagious claim that under the NDP BC has become 'the highest taxed province' is nonsense. Provincial own-source revenue as share of GDP is 4th lowest among the provinces, and below the Canadian weighted average. #bcpoli /2

It would be one thing if the arguments for expanding fossil fuels were geostrategic or economic. The public could weigh the projects and forecasts against protection of lives, species and livelihoods....

Sorry Mark, but you're backing the wrong here. CCS is a wet dream sold to politicians by the fossil fuel industry; prevention is better than cure (i.e., you don't have to capture carbon that isn't produced in the first place). Why build a new pipeline when we're still paying for the old one (TMX)?

Carney's arrogance is showing. And this whole argument is bullshit. We stopped building because big companies decided to focus on share buybacks and maximizing dividends rather than new capital investments. Justin Trudeau didn't cause that to happen. www.thestar.com/politics/mar...
He also took aim at Canada’s regulatory environment that existed before he took office, including through changes under his predecessor prime minister Justin Trudeau, arguing that there is an urgent need for change so that major “strategic infrastructure” like the St. Lawrence Seaway or trans-Canadian railroads can be constructed again.

“We used to build in Canada. We used to build big,” Carney said. “Decade after decade, year after year, we build less.”

The prime minister said that a succession of “well-meaning” restrictions on development has hampered progress in this country, which “meant that we stopped building.

Claiming we must sell off big airports, so we can build small regional airports, is an insult to our intelligence. If there is anyone on the planet who knows that money is fungible, it's PM Carney. Could equally claim the money will be used to fix the bells on the Peace Tower. /3
