This sort of post is really no better than the genre snobbery it decries. The truth is that the great majority of litfic authors aren't really self-important, or hostile to genre fiction, or any of that. It's the people who write about litfic who sneer at genre work, not the authors of litfic.

This proposition would issue $8.4 billion in bonds to support immunology and Alzheimer's research. We sure do like medical research, don't we?

But there's a catch. This proposition is designed with a number of specific conditions on who qualifies for this funding. So specific, in fact, that only one institution would qualify: the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, which happens to be chaired by the chief funder and proponent of Prop 38.

This is a total corruption of the ballot process and not how we should be funding medical research. Vote no.

Saw a video of someone who got put into solitary for months on end as a teenager. They described descending into hallucinations and psychotic break. They also described the fact that years later, even with therapy and medications, the hallucinations sometimes come back.
