I was honestly surprised we didn’t get the different aspects of Jace that we see in the story in card form. Maybe we’ll get a Secret Lair for the set that’s Old Jaces but with an alternate names Jace Vryn’s Prodigy as The Survivor (I think that’s the youngest one w/ Garruk) etc #RealityFracture

The ludonarrative storytelling in Reality Fracture has been so unbelievably good. So many of these cards hit like a punch to the gut, and I mean that in a good way. Hats off to everyone who worked on the flavor and mechanics of this set.

I love how their friendship is the part of Tam/Jace that knows how to ask for help, a part of their identity that had been lost. A way that Reality Fracture's tragedy could, perhaps, have been averted. Not only that, but she's willing to seek help from those others would never even consider.

Wait. There was something she was going to do.

Right! She remembers. I must ask for help.

Tam firms her stance and reaches out with her mind; she knows just who to call.

And she gasps as her telepathic range extends beyond its usual height, up into the atmosphere, into a place between worlds, beyond that, as far as she can reach, until she feels the familiar steel-cold rain of Innistrad and finds the help she needs.

She brushes the edges of a sky, an infinite maw, and the beast that lives within the moon stirs at Tam's psychic nudge.

You, Emrakul responds.

I need your help, Tam says.

Magic the Gathering is an excellent place to write fanfic. A big cast with room for more if you start making your own OCs. A rule system. Vast worlds with stories to be discovered. AUs might be your thing (just explore it a lil' further than Jaces' foray that's all I'm asking). Canon compliant stuff

I love that this story gets love. Loving the whole of someone isn't easy. It means you know there are terrible parts, parts you don't forgive and can never forget. But they are a component of your beloved, and to know someone has seen ALL of you and still loves you. That is powerful. Brb crying.

And there, flickering into vision at the Detective's command, is the true compleated Jace, huddled on the ground, pulling a shining sword from his chest. His face is contorted in pain, black oil streaming from the sides of his lips and his trembling cables. His expression is one of grim determination, and when he meets Vraska's eyes, it is with a fire she has never seen in him.

"I'm coming!" he coughs, and half his oil comes up with it. He grits blackened teeth with all his fury. "I'm coming, Captain …"

A relatively minor detail given the... everything else... happening in story right now, but I adore the Phyrexian body language on display here! Progress Engine tendrils smoothly flowing with the rest of their body, directing their attention. And I love that it's bringing Tam a kind of comfort.

"His experiment is already tearing at the seams of the original Multiverse's reality," the Nihilist explains. "He thinks it will be painless, but that's not what the math says, and he knows it. It's hopeless." The nearly Phyrexian man looks down at the Theorist, half-conscious and slouched over the table. The Nihilist turns all his blue-eyed cables toward Tam. "There is no future when a rudder thinks he's the whole boat. Our death will mean nothing, just as our life meant nothing."

Tam nearly defends the rest of her teacher's selves but holds her tongue—probably not much she can say to cheer up the Nihilist. He reaches out with a gloved hand and rests it on Tam's shoulder. A small cable snakes up close. She feels oddly comforted by the contact.

"You can't win, kid," the Nihilist says.

"I can find a way," she hisses.

The Nihilist exhales quickly, and a cable twitches; it's as close to a laugh as he can get. "You know, there's one lesson we never learned," he adds. "Might solve this. Probably won't." The Nihilist sighs, his metal and cables sighing with him. "How to ask for help."

Ohhhh, that's fucked up. THAT'S fucked UP. This might be the single most fucked-up thing in the echoverse so far, and Jace didn't even do it intentionally. Damn.

Vraska's lip curls with rage. Her double is taller than her by an inch, her long white cloak elegant and begging for sunshine, crow's feet smoothed and neck long and inviting. She's a vision, resplendent without effort, no captain, but worse. As the other Vraska approaches without danger glowing in her eyes, Vraska realizes the most repugnant fact of all: This is a gorgon who cannot petrify.

Been thinking a lot about how Vigorbloom's flawed approach to biomancy echoes Jace's approach to the Multiverse. Unlike Witherbloom, Vigorbloom refuses to face death or decay, and attempts fervently to pull back anyone and everyone from the brink, regardless of consent. (1/X)

While in the Multiverse they're scavengers, in the Edge they seem to be far more active predators. My current hypothesis is that the Edge is beyond Eldrazi's native range, and they're changing their behavior in response to their colonization of a new area.

There's so much in this (once again incredible) chapter worth remarking on, but this part is my favorite: confirmation of how Eldrazi work and their important ecological role in the wider Multiverse! They're not truly unnatural or alien. They're indispensable scavengers.

I prune worlds. When one grows sick, threatens the wilderness of eternity, or fails to blossom fully, I aid the broader forest by felling a single tree. The monster's wide eyes connect with hers.

That booming voice from above drowns out whatever the puppet's voice actually sounds like. Tam realizes she needs to leave.

But I smell that you know not just of a sickly tree … but of an entire forest. I smell a Multiverse on you. A cluster of worlds on the verge of becoming. I sense that you are burdened by the knowledge of this world. Let us help one another. Show me where your Multiverse is, coveter of life, and I will rid you of it.
