Yeah, you lose touch with people early on and thereafter it's a prioritisation thing whether you/they make the effort. By the time you get the time it might be too late.

I think people underestimate how circumstantial friendship is. Having kids is a huge drain. There's not a lot of time/energy to put into keeping contact with people unless they fit into your lifestyle. Early on it's all schedules, scrimping, and carving out tiny bits of time for yourself.

Reform promised big efficiency savings in Kent, got in, then couldn't find a damn thing to cut and had to admit they were wrong and the previous council were not hopelessly inefficient at all. It's an easy promise to make, harder to deliver.

Over the last few months, I’ve been focused on the next horizon and what would stand in the way of mission success. I believe there are a few important new things the world will need to get right as we enter this next period. I suspect people will stay on them, on and off. I wouldn't expect someone on any medication to give it up just because it's done the job in the short term. Weight is more an athletes foot situation - the underlying condition remains even if not visibly active right now.

Similarly in the debate about net zero (a very popular policy) "but what if you ask if people are prepared for higher prices to pay for it?" / "need to be honest with voters about the costs" - noone ever does this re: cutting migration.

It might happen!

Following Nigel Farage’s decision to resign and trigger a by-election in Clacton, Liberal Democrat Leader, Ed Davey, said:

"If this by-election does go ahead now, we are calling on all parties to stand aside and refuse to give oxygen to Farage’s vanity project.

"But the Government should just say no to Farage’s ego-trip and block his resignation until the Standards Commissioner has finished investigating him.

"The people of Clacton should have all the facts before they cast their votes."
