The next species to feature in my summer of European clouded yellows is Mountain Clouded Yellow, found in the dizzy heights of the Austrian Alps in July. All Colias clouded yellows are restless souls, particularly on sunny days. This was a rare opportunity for a photo!

I recently had these jewels officially accepted as Tennessee state records 2 & 3 of the ceraunus blue. The previous record was from 2016, but this more Southern species made a push north this year, with several sightings in Missouri. I was delighted to find two individuals two days apart! #BugSky
A gray butterfly the size of a fingernail with rows of white-edged black markings and some spots on its hindwing that are outlined in orange and have blue iridescence. The same species of butterfly, but with a few more spots on the front row of its hindwing, and more orange outlining the iridescent spots.

Went out for a walk today with seeds and fruits in mind for forthcoming #WildflowerHour, but got badly distracted by fungi instead on a beechwood floor. Must do more of these wanders in the days and weeks to come.

It's been a classic Clouded Yellow year here in the UK, with many autumn insects still on the wing now we're moving into October. I've seen a lot of other Colias clouded yellows on my travels this year - here are my favourites, starting with Pale Arctic Clouded Yellow in Sweden. #butterflies

Earlier this year, I tried (unsuccessfully) to protect a Bee Orchid, right in the heart of my village. Well, I’ve found another rosette in a similar location- time to try again (it’s a long time until flowering time though 😬) #orchid
