An unexpectedly free afternoon, so took a walk on my local NNR to enjoy the warm sunshine on this last day of September. Delighted to see Clouded Yellows still zooming around, and even more delighted that this fellow stopped long enough for me to take his picture! 🦋💛 #autumnbutterflies #yellows

Ok, it was a trip to hunt for butterflies in the Arctic, but the flora there was stunning too. And can’t resist sharing these fairy Twinflowers growing on a roadside bank near Narvik 💖

Dozens of Black-Veined White butterflies (Aporia crataeai) swarm a kayak by the Vagran River in the Ural Mountains of Russia. 🦋 The butterflies are attracted to the salt from human sweat on the kayaker's gear and clothing. This happens in early summer when these butterflies emerge. #butterfly

Orchis spitzelii was a long-awaited first for me today, an orchid I looked at in a field guide 35 years ago and yearned to see one day. Orchis pallens on the other hand wasn't new, but it's been a while, and it's a species I love unreservedly for its elegance and clear colours.
