One thing I keep thinking about with AI:

The old line between “company knowledge” and “personal knowledge” starts to get pretty blurry when your actual job is synthesis.

Historically it felt simpler. Companies owned the docs, systems, code, strategy artifacts, etc. People accumulated judgment, pattern recognition, leadership instincts, and experience over time.

But a lot of modern executive work now is consuming huge amounts of information every day, pressure testing ideas with AI, synthesizing patterns continuously, and refining frameworks over years. That feels very different from “I wrote a document.”

AI changes the scale and persistence of all of it.

The weird part is that I don’t think the old mental models really work anymore. Human cognition used to be naturally lossy. You forgot details and retained principles. AI systems don’t forget the same way.

Feels like there is a pretty significant shift coming in how we think about institutional knowledge versus personal synthesis, especially for knowledge workers whose primary output is judgment, prioritization, and pattern recognition.
