Something I've been thinking about while watching Buffy is how focused the writing/production is focused on keeping things engaging in time for each commercial break. The sense of urgency and fear you'll change the channel permeates in a way the vast majority of Streaming Era shows don't.

I remember 20 years ago I saw that viral Internet clip of the guy at the wrestling con crying yelling "It's still real to me, damnit" I never found it funny. Despite barely engaging with professional wrestling that imprinted upon me an immense feeling of empathy for people who do that job.
