Sure looks to me like Bob Kettle knew for a year and a half that SPD had massively expanded its surveillance capabilities without a public vote and…just sat on that knowledge without doing anything about it. A massive scandal. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Are shots fired increasing? No we're just displaying years backwards on charts now? Violent crime may be down, but graph crimes are here to stay I guess.

A new security report from King County Metro shows that reported security incidents on buses are now less common than they were PRE-PANDEMIC, even after adjusting for somewhat lower bus ridership. In 2019, Metro saw 64 incidents per million boardings. In 2026 that number has dropped below 60.

This is the first time I think that Sound Transit has actually shown a rendering of the infamous "trapezoidal" light rail station at Seattle Center that is expected to be $470 million cheaper than a simple box station, thanks to elimination of a mined section of tunnel.

the permitting reform deal is extremely good and Dems should support it because 1. It will lower carbon emissions 2. It will not help Trump politically, and most of the benefits won’t be felt until 2029 3. we won’t get a better deal while Trump is President 4. We can always improve it in 2029

This aligns exactly with what we know about noncitizen voting; it is extremely rare (9 noncitizen votes in MN out of 3,253,920 in the 2024 election, or 0.0002%), and when it occurs it’s most often green card holders who were mistakenly told they could vote (none of these people are undocumented).

This is actually so funny to me. No, the Seattle mayor is not going to take it upon herself to find a permanent source of funding for a council created program in which they get to pick their own transportation projects to be funded and then take credit for them. I can't believe you brought it up.

In 2027 Seattle's minimum wage will be $22.14 per hour. That's more than THREE TIMES the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour—a rate that hasn't been raised since 2009. And yet somehow we're not the jobless wasteland orthodox economics would predict. Weird.

CHIEF: Well, I guess we'll just have to shift our focus to traffic enforcement and pedestrian safety

CHIEF: Hah, I'm just messin with yall! Now let's get out there and bust some illegal fruit vendors!

Protected infrastructure is obviously critical because it keeps you physically safe, but it also plays a huge role in lightening the mental load for cyclists. It turns out that being able to ride and not have to worry about being killed does wonders for your mind!

One of the hardest things about being a cyclist is dealing with the nagging feeling that a serious crash is inevitable. Because you can indeed do everything "right" and it still does not matter.
I followed every precaution and it didn’t matter

New to biking here

I started in July around the time of the fatal car crash with that biker. That and hearing everyone who bikes to work tell me that they have had horrid experiences with cars was disheartening.

I made sure to only use protected routes. I take Southwest corridor for basically my whole trip and even though it adds so much more time to my commute, it makes me feel safe.

None of that mattered because at some point, even for a second you will hit the main road. And you will always lose to the 4 ton machine. I got hit by a car parking in the bike lane. He was more concerned with his car than the fact that I could have my life potential altered forever because he was looking at his phone. And at the end of the day, the police can literally choose to not respond to your 911 call and you get stuck with medical bills.

It’s hard to have a conversation about sharing the road when people in cars feel entitled to do whatever they want and the only person who’s ever in danger is the biker. I love biking in this city and I have found a really love and joy for the outdoors because of it. Now I am terrified to even get on a bike lane, even if there is one, if it’s shared with the main road.

It is, btw, entirely a product of Wilson Derangement Syndrome that we are still talking about why a press conference in July didn't happen sooner than it did. If you rely on mainstream press for your news, you'll think this is all that's happening (that and rampant murder sprees across Seattle ofc)

And I need to mock Rob Saka for bellowing "turn on the damn cameras!!" at Seattle Center. The cameras at Seattle Center are turned on. However, there are no POLICE cameras at Seattle Center (the ones Saka was demanding someone turn on), so it would not be possible to meet this demand.

Davis also blamed former chief Barnes for giving messy instructions and not letting him know when he was in charge, a fact that I didn't see in any of the coverage I read. The meetings to brief Barnes "were not helpful," and "I just needed to be left alone," Davis said.

At a budget meeting today, Councilmember Rob Saka demanded (of a parks budget staffer) a commitment from the Parks Department to add police cameras all over Seattle Center. This was a tragedy that SPD responded to immediately on the scene. It would not have been prevented by cameras.

Of course, SPD also suggested the shooting shows they need more police to be on the scene at huge events (the Seafair torchlight parare was also happening, so there were about a dozen fewer officers on site). This is like building massive parking lots that are unused except on Black Friday.

Sayles also explicitly took responsiblility for the fact that SPD (as I reported) did not put out a word of new information after 6:30, when they posted, only on X, that there was a mass shooting. They did a press conference around 11 and finally put out a press statement early the next morning.
