CBC may have lost the rights to the Americanized NHL, but there is so much hockey and other amateur sport they could be covering and broadcasting. PWHL Hockey Night in Canada is fantastic. Give us Soccer Saturday Afternoon, or Senior Hockey Fridays, too!

They opened up a Burger King on Main Street the year I was in Grade 9. Their lunch special was the 99¢ Junior Whopper. You could get from Moncton High to BK in about 20 minutes, eat five burgers, and get back in time for third period, maybe stopping for a litre of chocolate milk on the way.

On the other hand, engineering or technical education is something that is kept from many students. We ought to be encouraging high school and university students to understand the built world around them, and why things work the way they do.

There are technologies that would make data centres cleaner from a carbon perspective as well as more water efficient. There are also tremendous opportunities for heat recovery, allowing other industries to reduce heating costs. All of these strategies are pretty simple from an engineering point.

Rob Hoadley @robhoadley.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Data centres are incredibly controversial right now. Jurisdictions across North America are pausing development if not outright banning construction. Canada and New Brunswick ought to be developing strong regulations that encourage cleaner data centres, but then allowing them to be built.

If VoltaGrid want a more predictable carbon cost, they should build a data centre that doesn't require the use of 190 MW of natural gas generators. That's the whole point of a carbon tax. We want corporations to lower their costs by adopting cleaner technology.

The Brewers have been playing ball in Milwaukee since 1970. This year is already their best regular season ever, but the franchise has never had a 100-win season. They need one win in their final four games to do so.

Time zones work by setting 12PM at a specific time of day. We used to set 12PM to be noon, the time when the sun is directly overhead. Each time zone is 15° of longitude wide, which is distance Earth rotates in one hour. The problem is that noon in Fredericton is different than noon in St John's.

Time zones and daylight savings time just mask a hard truth in Canada - we get seven to eight hours of daylight in winter. There's nothing we can do to change that other than shift when those 7 or 8 hours will be. The sun will rise and set every day based on your geographic location.

In 2024, the US imported ~12 million metric tons of potassic fertilizers from Canada (hillnotes.ca/2025/06/05/p...) Specialized ships can carry ~60k metric tons, tho container ships <half that (www.sasktoday.ca/central/loca...) So we'd need at least 200 ships loaded from [checks notes] Belarus
