(and that is what so many college students seem to have lost track of: the part where college is the most elite and expensive brain gym ever invented, and somehow now they think that watching videos of bench presses is the same as doing bench presses)

A very important read. Both in the specifics of what these 5 women had to endure and as an indication of the unscrupulous tools and tactics that oligarchs, businesses, and the Trump WH have at their disposal to try to control the public narrative.

Yep: 1. Dems flip the Senate in 2026 2. Lame duck Alito replacement 3. 2028 Dem trifecta win 4. SCOTUS nearly unrecognizable as an institution before 2030 (reduced scope, many Justices, decision by random panel)

Yer another example that LLMs are pattern generating machines that store the full content of the entire training set replicated via encoding in the model parameters.

Good! I think we are seeing something similar to the revolt against Senate appointments during the beginning of the 20th century. Just as citizens tore down that corrupt system, SCOTUS will be something entirely different within 4 years - and we won't even need a Constitutional Amendment to do it.

I think you start by impeaching someone whom GOPers hate, like Whiskey Pete. See how that goes in the Senate. Given THEM someone to scapegoat for losing their majorities.

This has become self-defeating for him. Even among most of his supporters, it across as clownish, untrustworthy, and only serves to remind everyone of his complete failure (caused entirely of his own making in dismantling the growing Biden economy out of spite).

As much as I'd like to impeach the f*cker, the first order of business with respect to SCOTUS is structural reform: a. massively expand (188 by elevating all Cir. judges) b. final decisions by random sub-panel of 13 c. remove all authority except original jurisdiction specified in Constitution

It’s batshit to me that the far left think they can win national, statewide, or even local races across this country w/out building a coalition that includes moderates. I’m a progressive. But I know calling moderates names doesn’t win them over, it just shrinks your coalition.

The thing to remember about Mike Pompeo is that he is an untruthful, fundamentally unserious person, with terrible ideas about foreign policy & everything else, who weakened & embarrassed the State Dept & was the worst Secretary of State in 🇺🇸 history. This is embarrassing & shameful from SIPA.

Reading the opinion it seems clear to a layperson this is the "correct" conclusion. Quotes from various founders, including Chief Justice Ellsworth, make the result appear obvious. I imagine it will feel wrong to many judges, not just the result-driven MAGA 6 on SCOTUS, so the 11 Cir. will reverse.

He's such a resentful idiot that he didn't just continue Biden's policies. If he had, very few would have cared while he instituted fascism and corruption as the economy boomed. As it stands, though, voters in the middle aren't buying his crap anymore. These ads won't help him!

Not saying many directors are getting saved by their editor a la George and Marcia Lucas. As just a film viewer, I expect there's a reason directors often work with the same editor. Analogous to business relationships where respect with professional tension and differing POVs brings out the best.

Robert Wilde @robertwilde.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Seems that a healthy tension between editor and director is often a pretty key requirement to get the best possible film out of a director.

Allowing personally targeted advertising was a societal mistake. For a lot of reasons, we should have treated all personal attributes like race and prohibit their use in digital advertising. If advertising had remained content targeted that likely would have left publishers in a stronger position.

Prompt injection wouldn't be a problem if safety was addressed at the point of model training rather than via processing and filtering the context window and input prompt. That's a very hard and somewhat ill-defined problem, though.
010
Robert Wilde @robertwilde.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I agree that models likely can be controlled if effort is put into the problem. Designing safety protocols during model creation/training is a HARD problem. Filtering input sent to the model for safety is much easier. Why early models would do bad things when asked using poetry but not in prose.
120
Robert Wilde @robertwilde.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
A critical issue is that in many of the safety protocols are implemented at the input / context window level not at the model training level. It's an easier problem, but only the most superficial of solutions with the underlying issues remaining hidden in the model.

That's a fair question. A quick search doesn't find it in any official statement. Perhaps the media independently latched onto the phrase or perhaps it was surfaced to them in background discussion.

Robert Wilde @robertwilde.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Yep. Liability was either created during training or within the context window.

Robert Wilde @robertwilde.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Yes, but companies aren't held responsible for the actions of rogue employees. It's literally in the definition. I'm not strongly opposed to calling what the AIs have done "going rogue," but it also seems clear that the language was chosen by the companies to try to shift liability.

There are analogous rules for demographic data about race. Extend that to every piece of personal data. And no this doesn't kill the ad market, it actually empowers the content producers. Carve outs for existing business relationships allow things like personalized shopping lists to continue.

Robert Wilde @robertwilde.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Implementing consumer data control and rules on collection is critical, but this should also be tackled form the other direction: how the data is used. Restricting personally-targeted ads dries up the demand (only contextual ad targeting legal).
