"Each pair had a bleached and a healthy fragment. He set up five pairs so that their fragments touched each other, and five with their fragments separated by a few millimetres. In the touching pairs, the bleached coral recovered within eight weeks."

‘Incredible’: bleached corals thrive within days when touching healthy neighbour
A coral fragment can form a tissue bridge with a dying counterpart — and provide it with crucial microalgae.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a little dog is sleeping on a couch, kicking its paws. A person says, “look! The little kicks!” Panel 2: in awe of the cuteness, the person continues, “what do you think he’s dreaming about?” Panel 3: in the dog’s dream, the pup is wearing a captain’s jacket, holding tightly to a wooden ship on stormy seas. In his other paw, he is gripping a harpoon as an enormous vacuum cleaner breaches violently from the water.

goooood morning it is cool and cloudy and we made our rounds like usual, greeting a couple of neighbors, doing a lot of sniffs, and sharing our snacks with crows, so yes indeed: Lucy Loved That Walk
Big fluffy black and tan husky mix with bright blue eyes and a smile; she is sitting in a pile of red fallen leaves.

I'm dying laughing at how the cat has conformed to her flower shaped bed today
A white cat is sleeping curled up in a med that has five fluffy white lobes of a flower petal, the cat has half her face peeking upwards and otherwise has filled the pentagonal space in the center of the bed completely

As the large storm headed my way, a wide cloud ceiling formed and spread across the region overnight. This morning was one of dramatically changing weather. Sparse clear regions admitted very reddened sunlight which illuminated the clouds first to the East, then to the Northwest.
The initial illumination on the clouds the morning of October 10, 2026 was a nice very saturated red. This was captured in a fisheye time lapse sequence as well with still frames like this one from another digital SLR camera. Openings in the clouds toward the East allowed very red light into the local overcast area and briefly brought a glorious show to the High Desert. Here and there, rain was beginning to show itself, such as in a distant low segment of a rainbow seen here hugging the Northwest horizon on the lower right. Only red light was then available for the rainbow.

goooood morning after a few real nice days in a row we’re back to raincoat weather, and the bluster chased away a lot of our friends - but not the crows! - so we shared our snacks, stayed mostly dry, and yes: Lucy Loved That Walk
Big fluffy black and tan husky mix with bright blue eyes and a green raincoat covered in cartoon frogs. She is strolling happily down a wet sidewalk.
I have to roll the hood back for her so she can see, because the jacket is a little big for her - she has a barrel chest, and this was the one that fit around her rib cage.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In panel one, we see a crow’s face. It says, “I AM DEATH’S MESSENGER”.
In panel two, we see the same crow’s face. It continues, “YOUR TIME IS NEAR”.
In panel four, we see the crow awkwardly hopping away from a stick figure.
In panel five, we see the grim reaper with the crow perched on his hand. The grim reaper says, “So you should probably fly away dramatically instead.”

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

Howard V. Brown did a lot of great 1930s pulp sci-fi magazine covers. Nevertheless, his June 1924 cover to "Scientific American" might be my favorite work of his, despite not actually being science fiction. I love the nonchalant surrealism.
Two guys carefully paint a scene of a harbor town surrounded by mountains - a scene which they seem to be existing inside, as giants.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...
A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is. Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle.
