Thanks for all who helped calm my nerves yesterday evening. Judge granted our petition and after 50 years our client will be free to spend his last days with his sons on the outside. Some days are good days to be a lawyer.

This week, my students and I @templelaw.bsky.social filed a human rights petition on behalf of Charles Slaughter, a 73-year-old PA prisoner who has spent five decades serving life without parole. Behind bars, he became known as "Shug" for his sweet disposition. 🧵 Read his petition: lnkd.in/gdeMRG7E

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

Imagine being wrongfully convicted and poor. Your hopes of freedom rest on being appointed a lawyer to finally show the court how your trial was unfair. Instead, after zero investigation, that lawyer urges the court to rule against you. In PA, it happens all the time.

This is a long shot because this isn't the old twitter, but I'm looking for history articles/books that look at cases of British/Irish settlers/squatters being prosecuted for crimes against Indigenous/colonized people. It can be anywhere in the world, but ideally the late C18/early C19.
