My weekly emails to postgrads during the Covid lockdown, started when it transpired that they were not getting any thoughtful official contact. These tell a story that we might reflect on. All, the thoughts are mine and they serve to sum up what I stood for. wattstuff.wordpress.com/covid-lockdo...

Just came across this in an email I wrote in March 2020: "PS. If you got this far…Outlook is asking me Is this email important? and then offering to give me feedback on it. WTF."

Just came across this from 10 years. It was a response to a request from a journal for a brief bio to go with some paper or other. I feel it is pretty authentic.
Roger Watt has been a Professor of Psychology for way too long and is beginning to outstay his welcome. His decades of experience have led him to believe that he knows everything there is to be known about (i) simple cells in V1 visual cortex and (ii) how to educate the type of student we get at Stirling. He lives in an office that is deliberately on a different floor in the building from everyone else: it’s a sort of a care facility.

Aw best thing about an end to a long(ish) term project is all the nice feedback that you get. A new recommendation just landed on LI 💚
Dom took on a large organisation with extremely guarded viewpoints and through focused, engaging User Research, challenged the prevailing narrative. This made people wake up to the value of good User Research and changed the way new work was approached for the better.

But I don't know anything about tapes or digitisation or anything like that. I don't even know how I would play this. I don't even know if it's still in good enough condition to play. So my question is... How? How do I take these two tapes, this two part performance, and make the choir live again?

Hm I think I think something somewhat orthogonal. There are so many fairy stories that are currently the more broadly accepted state of the art in our understanding of early cog dev - all include some degree of innateness. And this leads to harms.

This is the thing I come back to again and again, as (esp. undiagnosed) adhd folk we are constantly told our failures are due to not caring enough / not trying hard enough, and Jesus wept we could not be trying harder if we had a literal gun to our heads. The sheer fucking stubborn effort we put in.

I'm part of an amazing team looking at what autistic children want from their speech and language therapy. Nobody has asked them before! We're currently using some brilliant materials, developed with and by autistic people, to make interviews accessible to all children, not just those who speak
What we want: how can Speech & Language Therapy best meet the needs of autistic children?

We are looking for autistic children (9 – 15 years 11 months old) to take part in an adapted interview about their priorities and preferences in Speech & Language Therapy.

We hope our findings will support the development of services in this area.

We are looking for children who can express a choice on these matters, using a total communication approach. They should have a formal autism diagnosis which follows national clinical guidance on best practice.

If want to ask any questions about eligibility or to find out more generally, please contact us: NDSpeech-LanguageTherapy@manchester.ac.uk

Our team includes experienced & DBS checked autistic researchers & Speech & Language Therapists. Our interviews will be adapted to meet your child’s needs.

Funded by: National Institute for Health Care and Research (NIHR)
Sponsored and conducted by: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Conducted with collaborators: The University of Manchester, The University of Sheffield

The second clause of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 26, reads especially relevant in today's world.
Second clause reads:

Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.

Panic attack from ~2500 years ago. Job 4, 12
A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it.
Amid disquieting dreams in the night,
when deep sleep falls on people,
fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake.
A spirit glided past my face,
and the hair on my body stood on end.
It stopped, but I could not tell what it was.
