Does anyone else find it weird just how much non-fiction media we're suddenly consuming, what with the rise of short-form social media content? Not really non-fiction in the sense of documentaries or prose books or anything. I mean, all of the different TikTok apps are littered with videos a […]

Some thoughts about PeerTube I've been having. My biggest complaint about PeerTube as a viewer is that there's really not much interesting content on there (most creators only post to YouTube), and even when there is, very few of the people I follow on YouTube are on PeerTube. There's a […]

A thing I've been thinking about recently. Many websites are built with static site generators, using markdown source files, which are just the "content" of the page, without all the html for the layout of the page (including navbars, background images, and the geometry of the page). What if […]

MORAL
The moral is obvious. You can't trust code that you did
not totally create yourself. (Especially code from com-
panies that employ people like me.) No amount of
source-level verification or scrutiny will protect you
from using untrusted code. In demonstrating the possi-
bility of this kind of attack, I picked on the C compiler.
I could have picked on any program-handling program
such as an assembler, a loader, or even hardware mi-
crocode. As the level of program gets lower, these bugs
will be harder and harder to detect. A well-installed
microcode bug will be almost impossible to detect.
