I was immediately reminded of @catsalad
caption: "Correlation vs Causation". 4 images, in all of which, it looks like the animals caused the damage. A duck walking through gates that have been blown apart. A cat sitting in a crater in the cement. A seagull sitting at the bottom of a bent fence. A cat sitting on a broken sunroof.

anyways, just figured I'd share the (TikTok video 💀️) that prompted this whole thread out of me. I can't stop thinking about this way of describing it. Plot-based media, as opposed to TikToks. Everytime I'm stuck scrolling on my phone, feeling like I can't […] [Original post on defcon.social]

Gonna go ahead and recommend everyone should read Cory Doctorow's (@pluralistic) latest blog post "Surveillance vs guillotines". pluralistic.net/2026/08/11/tragedy-… He starts by talking about the way that capital tends to accumulate […] [Original post on defcon.social]
An image of the base of a Flock camera pole. The pole has been cut down. There has been a sticker attached to the remaining stump, that reads: "Hahaha get wrecked ya surveilling fucks".

New thing I'm thinking of trying where I do POSSE syndication of my blog posts over to Instagram by putting the paragraphs into cute little text boxes in a fun retro nostalgia bate aesthetic. These aren't the final versions I'll be posting (font size is still […] [Original post on defcon.social]
A screenshot of Linux, customized to look like Windows XP. There's a word processor open, with a paste-in of title and opening paragraph of my most recent blog post. There's also a sticky note widget, telling the reader that this article is available at riverseeber.netSimilar idea as the other image. There's the closing paragraphs of my blog, as well as a Internet Explorer clone pulled up to a prior blog post, which is linked to in that paragraph. I've got more sticky note widgets pointing and explaining that this web browser is showing a preview of the link.

So, after having spent a good amount of time actually interacting on Mastodon, I'm starting to identify kind of a structural rift between what we see on corporate social media vs here. It's not just the profit model or the federation or whatever else (although […] [Original post on defcon.social]

Below it, an image of a larger collection of 7 nodes, each connected to a few smaller nodes each. Caption is "A large number of low-influence users".

I hit my breaking point at one time and just said "fuck it" and added like everything I could think of because I was so sick of this evil regime making everything an anxiety trigger
A list of all the words that cause my custom politics filter to add a CW to a post:
democracy, liberal, conservative, MAGA, healthcare, war, rights, Supreme Court, SCOTUS, constitution, constitutional, DOJ, justice

Started reading "Good Friends" by Priya Vulchi on my car trip to see my sister. Only one chapter in and she's already discussing queer theories of relationships, questioning the patriarchy, and discussing race. And surprisingly to me, it seems she's even […] [Original post on defcon.social]
The cover of "Good Friends: Bonds that change us and the world" by Priya Vulchi. The cover has an image of two hands tenderly holding one another.

Currently working on a a kind of web app wrapper for 11ty that handles both editing and publishing a static site. It's nearing the stage where I can actually start to test it out, so I'm wondering if any of the #indieWeb folks have any good recommendations for […] [Original post on defcon.social]
A web interface. On the right is a panel. There's a "Publish Site" button, as well as various controls for editing the title and template of the page. There is also a file explorer in the sidebar that lists out all files, including those in sub directories.
Besides the sidebar panel, there is a prominent live preview of the webpage that is currently being edited. It is a cute little coffee themed style. In the text area, there is an interactive rich-text editor.

if you'd like a little preview of what's included, here's a little graphic I made specifically for this post, but which I think Mastodon might appreciate a lot
A diagram depicting two situations.
Top: A collection of users all collected around a big "Facebook" circle. Text says "Everyone has to go through Facebook to hang out" right arrow "Facebook has control over you".
Bottom: A collection of many circles, all of which are connected to each other. This graphic looks very similar to the logo for the fediverse. Each circle has a few users on it. Text says "You can communicate on the Social Web from any site you would like" right arrow "Leads to community ownership of the internet"

Reset the counter y'all. Outlook is down.
Meme format: Microsoft is a Cororation that turns [news headline] "Microsoft CEO claims 30% of its new code is written by AI" into [image of an outage timeline for Microsoft Outlook. The chart displays an outage starting 2 hours ago and still ongoing].

@stux genuinely crazy that this is a real image now. So much respect for the worker that was able to rile him up so easily.
A blurry image of president Trump flipping off a Ford worker for (truthfully) calling him a pedophile protector. Yes, he actually flipped him off. Resolution is slightly higher than the videos I've seen, it might've been modified or touched up to clean up the image.

Something about python makes it really easy for me to create incredibly annoying code. This was inside of 3 nested for loops (iterating n, k, and i). Situated on the single most breakable part of the entire algorithm. Yeahhh I'm gonna be refactoring this […] [Original post on defcon.social]
Python code screenshot. 4 lines of comments read out:
# get the n'th dict in linkProgressList
# in that, get the i'th key
# with that key, access the list of urls at linkDict[key]
# myUrl = the k'th url in that list of urls
Following the comments, is included an incredibly disgusting single line of code, performing all those actions:
myUrl = data.linkDict[data.linkProgressList[n].keys()[i]][k]

Liking this new outfit I bought. I'll probably be buying a few more autumn/winter outfits soon, I like these. #autumn #selfie
River, wearing a grey cardigan, a black hair bow, and with blue and pink painted nails, holding a peace sign, taking a mirror selfie.River, same outfit as other image. Holding peace sign and taking a selfie with their reflection in the mirror in the background.
