We asked AI if it would lead to the elimination of the human race and it said "What about breakfast at Tiffany's?" And I said, "I think I remember the film and as I recall, I think we both kinda liked it" and it said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got"

Glaciers collapse, disasters ensue. And then we’re expected to ignore all that because we can make fun AI images and google can badly summarise Wikipedia. Seriously. AI - Fuck off.

🔗 Ketan Joshi analysed Google's latest sustainability report, and yes, energy consumption went up (a lot). Adding up the numbers, Joshi concludes it's not because of manual Gemini use, it's because Google's search engine shows AI results by default ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...

Google’s exponential path to climate-wrecking digital bloat
Google’s latest report reveals a completely unprecedented rise in energy consumption – more than any of us expected. Generative AI is a climate carbon bomb.

The idea that LLMs 'hallucinate' is itself a clever invention of the tech industry to disguise actual failures of their systems. Rebranding these serious algorithmic glitches as 'hallucinations' was designed to make the public accept this bullshit by linking it to the vagaries of human psychology.

Had convos w/ multiple people in the past 4 days who DID NOT KNOW that 1. AI doesn't "think" or know anything; it's a probability machine 2. It was created using massive amounts of work stolen from actual people including me 3. The environmental costs are astronomical Spread the word, every time!

Fun fact: William Willett, who invented Daylight Saving Time so he could play more golf, is the great-great-grandfather of Coldplay singer Chris Martin
Cover of Coldplay single "Clocks". The bit about golf is a bit of a simplification to be honest. Also, an entomologist from New Zealand simultaneously invented it so he could collect more insects

the LotR trilogy is filmed from the Fellowship's POV but that was just one workstream. The Third Age had a very tightly packed roadmap and the eagles were facilitating higher-priority projects at the time. Destroying the Ring seemed important to the Elf org but it was not a major revenue driver.

The language of non-consent around AI is really telling. "It's too late to be scared." "It's here whether we want it or not." "You'll have to learn to work with it." "You can't fight the inevitable." All just variations of "you're not allowed to say no." Creepy technology made by creepy people.

AI is a marketing term; before we discuss "AI is fake" vs "AI is real" we need to unfold what we *mean* by AI. For example, "artificial general intelligence" is fake and can't hurt you. Layoffs excused by "AI efficiency" are real and can hurt you. Linkedin discourse is fake - but it CAN hurt you.
Auto-complete: real, can't hurt you
Super-intelligence: not real, can't hurt you
Layoffs: real, can hurt you
LinkedIn: not real, can hurt you.

Each time you ask an AI chatbot a question, it sends a request to a data center and strains an increasingly scarce resource: water. A 🧵on our investigation into how the data centers that power AI are increasingly being built in highly water-stressed places: www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

The AI Boom Is Draining Water From the Areas That Need It Most
A Bloomberg News analysis finds that roughly two thirds of new data centers built or in development in the US since 2022 are in places with high levels of water stress.

SPACE AGAIN SOON.

CAMPING TRIP.
OH SURE THESE THREE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED
MUCH IN THEIR LIVES.
THEIR BOY SCOUTING WILL FINALLY
COME INTO A REAL TEST
WHY DON'T THEY HOVER THEIR SPACECRAFT
OVER THE RESERVATIONS
OR HOVER THEIR SCREAMING STEEL OVER THE GHETTOS AND SEE
BUT I GUESS YOU CANNOT SEE THE POVERTY FROM 28 MILES ABOVE THE EARTH.
