fondly remembering the time someone tweeted a photo of an opened bag of sun chips in a bathroom stall with the caption “someone forgot their poopin snacks”

Yu-Gi-Oh Season 0 is actually a Kakegurui prequel

Why would any of my friends want to play a narcissistic puff piece of a video game that lays bare all of my private dreams and ambitions? This would be like listening to someone talk about a dream they had

I hear if you go into a darkened room and say “Slavoj Žižek” three times and then sniff really hard, that does the trick

I do think we need a better critical culture around AI just solely because a lot of people are being forced to use it at work and don’t understand how it works. But also, I don’t think people who don’t give a shit need to hear about it from people who love it and think it’s their friend.

the Alan Wake DLC for Control was also one of the best-integrated pieces of DLC I have seen, and made me glad I hadn’t played AW1 first, because “wait, is this … Alan Wake??” was a slow reveal

I still gotta go back and play Alan Wake and Alan Wake 2

@kourge.net no spoilers or anything (from either of us) but did you get Control Resonant, and if so how are you liking it?

This is going to sound like a bit, but: apparently the food stall outside the Emeryville Home Depot has legitimately good breakfast burritos

Joshu @rhwlo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I need someone to make a breakfast burrito as good as the ones I can make. Which shouldn’t be that hard, by all rights

I *think* this is consistent with Jaynes’ claim, which is that the intervention of the gods is what we experience as the conscious mind, so it’s like “Achilles is late for work and angry about that but Athene counseled him not to shout at the barista because it wouldn’t be nice”
110
Joshu @rhwlo.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I think Snow Crash may have been heavily influenced by it
100
Joshu @rhwlo.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
At least that’s what I remember from the book. Also a bit about how some of the appearances of the gods were consistent with auditory hallucinations
100
Joshu @rhwlo.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
but Jaynes’ claim (at least) with regards to the Iliad wasn’t that people lacked emotion, it was that there wasn’t the sense of feeling one way and acting another. I guess almost a lack of cognitive dissonance?
100
Joshu @rhwlo.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I think this is probably the claim from Julian Jaynes’ “The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind”, which I cannot attest to the plausibility of, but which is a book that had An Impact on me

So that account, the one that people are mostly paying attention to without knowing it's run by an AI accelerationist, had to delete the blog post because it actually hit a legally actionable threshold of making shit up about others? 🫠 Please be critical reading things, Bluesky.

You should have to smell the dead when you disinter them.
A chat request from a late friend
I recognize the pain of thinking if I could only talk to them one more time. It is among the more familiar human laments. But that's just the thing it is a human problem to be endured not a technological problem to be sold. Our capacity for loss – in fact the necessity of losing and having lost – is what makes us who we are. Individually and collectively. There is no workaround. There will be no workaround. And every step toward preventing that or perverting that is an affront to our humanity. Why not just taxidermy nana and prop her up at the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dinner table? At least there's something real and tangible about that. Undeniable in its sacrilege. You should have to smell the dead when you disinter them.
