I was heartbroken past night to learn of yet another school shooting in the US, one reason I’m grateful to be raising my kids north of the border. Meanwhile, this was one of the items on my overseas ballot for the state of Idaho. (I’m fortunate to have immigrated to and be raising my kids in Canada)
Idaho Advisory Question: which of the following guns should be designated as the state gun of Idaho? Please choose only one answer.
Winchester model 1894
Winchester model 1873, gun that win the west
1873 colt single action army revolver “peacemaker”
M1 Garand rifle
Colt M1911 .45 automatic Colt pistol
Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle

In short, let’s slow down cars, build safe infrastructure, get more people out of cars, & yes, limit sales of uncapped scooters. Banning a form of transportation that has given people (especially teens) freedom & an affordable, accessible, fun way to get around outside of a car is not the answer.

There’s a lot of moralizing around scooters on sidewalks these days, too. I understand that’s a problem, but even on sidewalks the far, far greater risk to pedestrians is still from cars. (And if we want scooters off sidewalks, let’s build more protected bike+ lanes!)

I’m so tired of this framing. Most of these injuries are riders being hit by drivers. I was injured while riding a scooter earlier this year - because I was hit by a law-breaking driver. The result would have been the same if I’d been on a bike. Let’s focus on the biggest problem first, please.

Not sure if people know this - registered political parties in BC get an allowance per # of vote received. (e.g. My riding will surely elect a Cons BC for MLA... I'm still going to vote Green as it gives them some funding.) Let that be an incentive to go vote. elections.bc.ca/candidates-p...

Important piece from @doctorvive.bsky.social "Perhaps the most underappreciated truth about climate politics is that, even if the liberals call for clean-energy development, both the authoritarian right and the center-left reject the phaseout of fossil fuels. " Some big green NGOs need to read.

The Hastings-Sunrise traffic calming has given my kids a safe route to school, soccer practice, & friends’ houses. It allows me to breathe easy when my son heads out on his bike in the morning. It has made the neighbourhood so much more peaceful. Don’t let a vocal minority endanger all of us. 3/

I was hit and injured by a driver on a street with no traffic calming in February - just a couple blocks south of where this infrastructure is installed. Traffic calming could have prevented my injuries and months of pain and reduced function. I cannot understand why anyone would want it removed. 2/

“Would you say that to a driver? Because this is a car-replacer.” Or just the informative: “Thanks! It’s a pedal-assist, doesn’t have a throttle, tops out at 30kph, and has allowed me to live mostly car-free for two years!” Anyway, men, don’t do this. 3/

The traffic calming installed in my neighbourhood has meant my kids have a safe route to school and soccer practice. Its made a huge difference for our comfort. Ken Sim & ABC would rather placate a handful of noisy drivers than protect children, seniors, & others who just want to get around safely.

Rhi Faux @rhifaux.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
IMO that just means you need to add MORE traffic calming and diversions; adapt what’s installed, don’t remove it. Patience would help too: it takes some time for apps to update and for rat-runners to figure out new routes. It will get better!

I just do not understand how so many of my neighbours in H-S value a slightly more convenient driving route to their front door over the lives of the kids in the neighbourhood.

1/ So it’s official. Faced with a choice between whales and oil, our Prime Minister chose oil. Faced with a choice between a safe climate and more fossil fuel expansion, he chose oil again. Today, Mark Carney announced yet another mammoth oilsands pipeline. #cdnpoli #bcpoli 🧵

Let me clear: this week's announcements are very, very bad news for Alberta, BC, Canada, and the world. As always, those who be most impacted by the resulting pollution and global heating are future generations and those contributing the least to the problem. Our leaders are climate criminals. 4/

The lifecycle emissions of the pipeline announced today would likely be 4-5x greater than those of LNG Canada. It will also substantially increase tar sands extraction & tailings pollution, which are causing health crises for downstream Indigenous communities where cancer rates are 25% higher. 3/

Of LNG Canada Phase 2 Eby said "It will change lives, here & around the world." Well, he's right about that. Its lifecycle emissions will be equivalent EVERY YEAR to 2x the emissions of all passenger cars in Canada. In BC, it'll dramatically increase fracking & its associated health risks. 2/

LNG Canada’s massive expansion is a go. Here’s what it means
A planned $33 billion investment in the second phase will double LNG Canada’s export capacity, bringing more gas, infrastructure and emissions to B.C.’s North Coast

Earlier this week, BC Premier Eby stood by PM Carney as they announced LNG Canada's Phase 2 expansion. Today Carney stood by AB Premier Smith to announce the designation of a new oil pipeline as a Project of National Interest. Our leaders are sentencing our children to an unliveable future. 1/

LNG Canada Phase 2 will release emissions equivalent to adding 900,000 gas cars to Canada's roads EVERY YEAR. It'll massively increase fracking in northeast BC, where communities are seeing increases in childhood cancer & a host of other health issues. And did I mention we're building new pipelines?

Here in Canada we like to criticize the climate progress being undone south of the border, but we're not doing that much better. Both the BC provincial government, led by the @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social, & the federal Liberals, have gone all-in on new fossil fuel development. This is climate arson.
